THIS IS HOW MY CAR SOUNDS LIKE LOL I HAVE THE SAME CAR WITH STRAIGHT PIPED RESONATORS...BUT IT IS ACTUALLY A WHOLE LOT LOUDER WHEN YOU ARE NEAR BY THE CAR

adidadi 09-01-2008 10:42 PM

Are you guys still happy with the sound after a few weeks or days of having it? Not too loud?

AAAMG_SL 09-02-2008 01:02 AM

It's been over month since I have put in the straight pipes. Still love the sound, and I'm actually looking at getting headers and/or aftermarket muffler to get it louder.

Same here, I like how loud it is but it still is a bit quiet at times. Thinking of straight piping the cats next.

IngenereAMG 09-02-2008 08:48 PM

More noise definitely fits the character of the SL55. Sounds great!

Chris-W 09-02-2008 10:54 PM

which resonators were removed?

I've been considering also removing the back boxes and running straight pipes witht eh AMG tips wleded on.

Anyone have some advice.. Are there any good kits out there or is it all custom?

Vic55 09-02-2008 11:34 PM

Sounds great but I think you knew it would based on others having done the same thing.

I love that you came back to get your camera in the first vid j/k :):)

There are 2 resonators, they are the ones being cut out in this picture.

They are pretty big...

Yeah playin it safe, just wanted it a bit louder for now and mission accomplished:D

Getting my camera was creepy as hell, couldn't quite remember where I left it since it was so dark. It was like 3 in the morning and behind the camera it was pitch black with a bunch of bushes and a ravine.

Chris-W 01-20-2009 06:58 AM

Thanks for posting those photos for me..

Im trading out my 55 for a newer one or posibly a 65 in a month or so and Ill chop them out as well :)

Chris-W 01-20-2009 06:59 AM

Also I take it this mod wont throw up any error codes?

maxabo 01-20-2009 10:53 AM

I myself have trouble finding that sound racey. (Sorry.)
Allthough in this case, much better than stock!
But to me, it still just SOUNDS too low rev to be connected to a tuned engine.
I know it revs towards 6000, but it sure sounds like 2000!:X

Didn't the World War II fighter aircraft "Messerschmitt" sound exactly like that..?!!

s2kpunisher 01-20-2009 09:57 PM

Wow nice vids, how much was the cost to do this and can you re-weld resonators if you want to go back to stock?

Yes, that's no problem at all.

And no, no error codes pop up.

UT_AMG 01-21-2009 11:11 AM

Reminds me of SL63...sounds great!

Now that's a sound I like!:y
M5's and M6's do sound great, in my opinon..!
Especially with an exaust from Kellener.

Rumor has it, that they come with a stick shift (manual gearbox) in the US!
Is that true..?
Many people would prefer that here, instead of the SMG! But we don't have that option...

hbluthi 01-22-2009 05:26 PM

Sounds Great!!!! I have been told that there are sensors that have to be dealt with so the "Check Engine" light does not come on. Is that true. I have been waiting for someone to do this and post it because I am seriously considering having this done.

m4xm1l10n 01-22-2009 06:34 PM

Just a dumb questions , does the resonators also applies to the SL500 AND SL600 , wonder how it would make my SL500 sounds like , also SL600:confused: ? Do they have resonators too ?

I had an SL500 as well, it has no resonator so I straight piped the muffler. It was loud, very loud...maybe too loud:nix:
