What were they thinking...?

I just got a '07 SL65, felt like the car rides a little on the stiff side - after checking, the rears had a reading of 50 PSI, adjusted the pressure to 38 PSI and took the car to work this morning, expecting all hell to break loose - nothing. Only after driving a short distance to lunch the warning light finally came on.
But here is the real bummer: The E55 shows individual tire pressure, an Audi A8 shows pressure and temperature for each tire - and all they could do on this high end model is an idiot light! To add insult to insury - according to the manual, the Canucks get the E55 style display on the SL65.... :word:

Is there a way to change this with different coding?

Another observation

Oil temperature: I understand up to '06 the SL65 does not have an oil temperature reading, which is not very sensible in a car exeeding the magic 100HP/lt mark. But maybe there is a reason to this thinking (apart from the believe that most SL driver don't care anyaway...) as the oil temperature climbs very fast to the critical 180F level: With the car parked in the garage overnight, start-up temp is around 65F, less than 5 miles later (city streets and a short stretch of hwy) and just shortly after the water temp reaches operating level, the oil is at 180F - ready to punch :zoom:

Conclusion: The oil is heated first, than cooled - all thermostatically controlled

Good observations. Oil cooler has thermostat.

If you drive it hard you will see temperature go over 212F quite often. It is normal and is needed to boil off any moisture that collects during the night.

Nice observation huh...You need to do something with that...

So does my 600. You may need to cycle through the display menus to find it on your 65. I find it hard to believe that they would make such a senseless software modification.

Does your 04 SL55?

tire

My 09 SL63 does not have individual tire pressures. The manual indicates that the Canadian version does, but the US does not. Strange.

My 04 SL55 does have individual tire pressure.
