faint clunk in floor post alignment
Just had my car aligned. They did a good job but post alignment I feel a very faint clunk below my feet when going over a small bump in the road.
any ideas? |
I had the same thing happen - It was suspension related. There is a lower arm with bushings that went bad. It cost me about $350.00 to replace. (Im lucky - I have a great local mechanic that doesnt rape you)... It took about 2 hours to do and is fine. My noise accured during slow turning which was caused by binding on the bushing.
Good luck |
normally if those bushings go bad you can check the ground for fluid ... but plastic underbody might make it hard for you to tell

The car is 3 weeks old. Ran over a rock(1/2 the size of a coffee cup) and nailed the rim which I replaced. MB says the suspension is fine but I swear I can feel a slight clunk in the floorboard when I go over road irregularities.

it appears to be the power steering rack. Will advise post repair

FIXED PROBLEM.... Rattle completely gone !
Had to spend $500.00 of my own money at a non dealership Mercedes authorized repair facility to have the tech do the work. But essentially the problem was three or four loose connections and a loose under pan. They also showed me the car had been previously lifted incorrectly. It is absolutely incredible that I was unable to have this addressed at the dealership and that the "tech specialist" said it was normal as well. Totally unbelievable |

i would try and make mercedes pay for that $500... ridiculous

What I'm really worried about is their inability to fix the shifting problem. If they couldn't fix a rattle, how should I feel about them opening up a transmission......

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE! WHO ARE YOU GOING TO BELIEVE?. THEM OR YOUR LYING EYES?
I have had similar experiences... They must have a list of standard comments!
Mr. Service writer.... My engine fell out and is draging on the ground! Standard comments: While under warranty 1."That is normal" ... 2. "They all do that" 3. "They were designed to do that" 4. "Cannot duplicate customer concern" 5. "You caused this when you opened the door" 6. "What type of gas are you using?" 7. "Dont worry you will get better milage" In the morning the service writers take bets on who will use the most excuses on the list. "WHAAAT WAS THAT YOU SAID?" You say that you car was out of warranty 15 minutes ago! "I am soooo sorry I misunderstood your original complaint..." I did not realize before your warranty expired that the huge piece of metal dragging below your car was the engine! Tell me do you have a good relationship with you bank? PS, I posted this first on the AMG site and they removed it immediately! |

It was gone for over an hour so I reposted it. Sure looks bad if you think about it.
