Performance package front end

I just picked up my car from the shop where I had the 2008 performance package front end installed on my 2005 SL55. This was truly a test of patience and endurance. The number of parts that had to be changed out was much more than I ever imagined and the local dealer had a difficult time getting everything ordered/back ordered. However the wait was worth it. I will post pic's after this weekend since I will be out of town over the weekend.

Your a better man than me! I had someone crack my front bumper and smash a few bits of mesh a month ago so took the car to the shop to have everyhting fixed and replaced under their insurance.

I considered the change as well but what a nightmare it was getting a list of the parts that were actually needed for the replacement!

I ended up getting everything the same put back on :(

Do you have the parts list that was used? If so Id have loved it a month ago :)

Regards

Nightmare is an understatement. There was one inner part that had 3 different part numbers and I'm sure you can guess what happened. The part was ordered 3 times and the third time was a charm. There were 34 different parts necessary to make it work and yes I have created a parts list.

Send me your e-mail address because when I try to post it in word on this forum it becomes illegible.

Car looks fabulous. I have been in Fla. for the last three weeks so did not get to talk to you. Glad it worked out. Mine looks exactly the same. Motorwerks said they had to order some parts from Germany when mine was done last year. Guess they were'nt kidding.

Parts list

The only part that was not available (even in Germany) was the screen behind the "gills". What we did was to use the center lower mesh from the original bumper and epoxied it in place.

There is no wire mesh on the bumpers with the gills, anymore. On the passenger side you can see the oil cooler, on the driver side its blocked off with a black plastic.

I like the idea of the wire mesh!

Look's great except this side piece? Isn't this extra side slat carried over to doors from Performance products co? Ala' mini-SLR side fenders

Looks very sharp, loving the look overall. I could imagine what a headache it was dealer with MB parts / service.

That is the part from Performance Products. I'm not entirely sure that I care for it but at $500 and the pain in the Ass that they were to get lined up straight they will remain for the moment.

I hear ya, I like the Carbon Fiber versions (from Perf Prod) for all slats better...I can't believe those were $500:eek:

They are made by GAP (German Auto Parts) and it is obvious that they are very proud of their pricing. At one time they made them out of metal at $1,000. I guess there is a sucker born every minute and buy the way I don't want to buy a bridge in Brooklin.:crazy:
