problem with window tinting on an SL63

i asked a local, experienced company to apply window tinting to my SL63. whenever the door is opened, the windows drop down around 1/8 of an inch. short of climbing out of the car with a ladder, how can the film be applied without having the bottom edge peel off?

the installer informed me that keeping the door handle open defeats automatic window roll down function on all other vehicles. the SL63 is the first exception he has encountered.

there is a button on the door jamb when depressed the windows are up (when I say up I mean all the way, not the drop down half inch); he can take the top to down and do the two side windows this way; then use a heat gun to get rid of the lower bubbles with the car in the shop still. Now let the car somewhere warm (outside under the sun) with the side windows up...this guy should know this already:eek:; how many R230's has he done? I would be very weary of getting my tint done with someone who didn't know about this (heck I'm not even a pro windor tinter and I know about this:nix:); personally I'd take it somewhere else to someone whose done a lot of R230's...

Find another tinter. What about the ones the dealer uses?

the dealer reapplied the tint and it is perfect now. thanks for the tip.

lot of times even if you have 20% here in MD/DC/VA they'll pull you over becuase if your interior is dark it makes the tint look darker; on a lighter interior color you can pull off darker tint...

I need to get my windows done also...

I am looking at getting my windows tinted as well on my sl55. Does that button exist on my car as well? If so, where is it exactly?

Thank you.

yes it should; it's near the striker...when I got my 500 tinted the shop wedged a squeegee in there and kept the side windows up all the way...

haven't gotten my 55 tinted yet; will probably do that this summer

You guys ever think of pulling the battery out?

no need to; as long as a heat gun dries the tint panel initially and the car can sit for a while under a tint light lamp it's fine...

Just got tint and this is the way the tinter did it. He used the heat gun also. Turned out great!
