SL55 Speed limited at 125 with top down?
I was driving my 03 SL55 with the top down and when I hit 125 mph it stop right there. Flat road but I could not go any faster? Is there a limiter on my car or all cars?
Lots of power to 125 so I don't know what happen? |
Definitely not... I used to do 160mph with the top down in my 04
|
ALso 256 km/h or 160 mph with top down (may be more but it's not delimited). :zoom:
May be a watercooling problem ? Does it loose all the power ? |

My was and early 03 Delivery on 12/2002. I will check with the Dealer. Going in for service for the ABC again.....
|
I heard the Early SL55's didn't have dyno mod either....
|
Maybe I better test my 03 with the top down on the way home from work tonight. :) Renntech reset the limit to 187 with the ECU upgrade, but I'm not sure if the top being up or down matters.
You might watch for a new thread: "GOT ARESTED DOING 187 WITH THE TOP DOWN" |

What is the Dyno mod?

Wait a minute, instead of trying your SL55 with your top down, why doesn't the op try his car with the roof up to see if the 125 limiter is still working.
If it goes right past 125 then it must have a limiter with the roof down!:y |

I thought I remembered previous discussion about dyno mode. Here is a link with good discussion about it: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...dyno-mode.html
What I want to know is (1) Do I have Dyno mode on my '03 SL55 (2) If yes, then how do I get the car into and out of this mode, once again for an '03 SL55 |

I read that thread but it seems to just talk about not driving an E55 with the car on dyno mode...and what Dyno mode disables
What I want to know is (1) Do I have Dyno mode on my '03 SL55 (2) If yes, then how do I get the car into and out of this mode, once again for an '03 SL55 Both my E500 and SL600 have dyno mode and I would think yours would too. It disables all of the nannies. ESP, ABS, etc.. and is very dangerous to drive in that mode for obvious reasons. Now, on the drag strip, many choose to use this mode to get aggressive launches. Here's the procedure for the E55, it's the same for our cars. 1. Turn ignition key to position 1 (SRS light on). 2. Make sure digital temperature gauge shows in instrument cluster. If it doesn't, use the arrow buttons on the left side of wheel to scroll through menu until it does. 3. Turn ignition switch off and back on again to position 1 (SRS light on). 4. Quickly, while the SRS light is on, push the trip odometer reset button at the far left of the instrument gauge cluster 3 times quickly. 5. Your display should now have a voltage reading, like "UB: 12.0V" on the screen. 6. Hit the up arrow button on the left side of the wheel until you get to the display that reads "ESP Dynamometer Test". 7. Now go to the right side of the steering wheel and hit the plus (+) button once to light up the "on" button for ESP Dynamometer Test. 8. Start up the car - you're now in dyno mode. The display will read "ESP unavailable Diagnostic Test". The car will stay in dyno mode, even if you turn off the engine. 9. To turn dyno mode off, turn ignition off, then turn ignition switch to position 1 again and hit the minus (-) button on the right side of the steering wheel once until the display says "ESP Dynamometer Test Circuit 15 off." Turn off the ignition - you're back to normal and out of dyno mode. Jakpro also did a video of it. It's also in the E55 forum somewhere. |

thanks BOR bro...sounds like a test manual excerpt! I assume the only times you'd want dyno mode is for the dyno and the drag strip?
no when you plan to race someone (streetracing) or drifting you can turn on dyno mode..get smoother take-off... i've tried it with and without dyno mode.. just regular launch esp off..i get wheel spin but once the car detect sideway movement the backup esp kicks in. the wheel chatter if the road is uneven..like abs is kicking in.. :word: on dyno mode..everything is smooth...no chatter to the wheel, no delay, no esp light flashing... :y |
yeah greeat, turn off all your safety features including ABS when your STREET RACING AND ANYTHING CAN POP OUT AND YOU WOULD NEED THE 100% BENEFIT OF THESE SAFETY FEATURES.
Best thing I guess for you is to lock up your brakes when that Honda Civic all of a sudden jumped out into the road while you were doing 80 in a 35mph zone. |

You definitely shouldn't be street racing in dyno mode. With the power our cars are putting down, you're gonna want those nannies if you get a little out of shape. On a closed course or dragstrip when things are in a controlled atmosphere, go nuts. You don't have to worry about that 8 year old on a bike jumping out in front of you.
You could easily shred a set of rear tires in dyno mode though. :D |
