SL55 AMG Wheel Offset question

Hey,

What is the most aggressive wheel size I can run on the SL55? I'm a nb when it comes to sizes and offsets for wheel specs, do you guys know what the original offset is on the OEM SL55 wheels???

Thanks

Kamil

OEM offset is listed in your owners manual.

Hey, I'm new to this site. I have a SL55 '03 and wants to know if the the 19" S65 wheels will fit on my car. I don't know if there are the same as the SL65 because I know they will work. Something to do with the offset?????

All r230 cars are the same for wheels
The offset would depend on the diameter and width.
Decide if you are going to lower it.
Pick a wheel, then see what sizes it comes in. Then pick the diameter and width and see what offset that is. Then adjust with spacers if you need to.

I have HRE 547R 20x9 et31 front and 20x11 et33 in the rear. Since I was lowered on links the wheels look like they're pushed in. I'm thinking about putting 12mm spacers in the front, what do you guys think?

bad move, extra track width with induced toe out and increased camber (lowered car) are all ailments for a street car.

Can you explain a little more? What do you suggest if I want the wheels to fit more flush? Thanks.

prematurely increasing track width increases scrub radius and if the front tires are toed out too aggressively it can start wearing the innner edges of the tire...also on an agressively cambered street car the front tires will start "hunting" which means they will start tracking the grooves in the road. You are running an aggressive setup on the street it will lead to problems, on the race track is where aggressive settings belong due ot predictable conditions and surfaces.

In the above chart there's option of 20x9 et 23 and I have et 31 so I can at least put a 8mm spacers and be safe, right?

As long as you have 8mm of clearance on your outer fender that will work for you. At the risk of stating the obvious you'll need longer bolts, too.

Yeah I measured it and it has about 12mm space, and yes I will buy the longer bolts for them, too. Just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it or have the custom wheels to have such aggressive offset without doing fender mods.

As John pointed out you'll need to measure the clearance and get the proper length bolts. An old racers trick for optimizing track width we used was to camber the tires with -3 to -5 depending on the circuit then we could space out the rim to accomodate the top of the tires tucking into the fender at load. For you this is not advisable; again things like your toe and camber setting check those as well as you play with the spacing of the wheels.

after you do all this you need to take the car and have it aligned. It may help slightly to reduce as much tire wear as possible. And it will show you how far off the specs you are.
