SL55 Fluids?

Im planning on doing some fluid flushes on my 2003 SL55, but I can't seem to find info on what types of fluids to use. If anyone has any info on any of the following fluids and how much I will need, please let me know.

Brake fluid (I assume any DOT4 will work)
Transmission fluid (was planning on using either Mobil 1 or Royal Purple ATF)
Differential oil (Probably 75W-90 synthetic but do I add a limited slip additive? Will it hurt anything if I add it and it's not needed?)
Engine coolant (orange or green stuff, or is there some super special MB color?)

Your owner's manual clearly states what to use for all fluids in your car. Look in the index under "fluids"

Looks like I'm going to have to get my hands on an owners manual then. My little pouch in the glovebox has everything but the actual owners manual.

Power Steering and ABC suspension Pentosin- CHF 11S or dealer equivalent
If you actually plan to flush the ABC system (HAVE FUN!), make sure you replace the micro filter in the reservoir

Engine Coolant- Dealer Anti-freeze only W/Distilled water (This combination is so good that the service interval on new Merc's is 15 years!)
(Don't forget the intercooler and lines)

Transmission Fluid- Dealer fluid only!!!
Final Drive (Without LSD)- Any Quality Synthetic 75w90 (Mobil 1,etc)
Final Drive (With LSD)- Dealer fluid only
Brake Fluid DOT 4-We use Castrol LMA

If you don't have access to a Mercedes SDS Diagnostic computer, don't attempt the brake fluid service. It take two people over an hour to do the procedure with the proper pressure bleeder and computer. The SBC brake system must be shut off before ANY services are performed for safety reasons. The pump can activate and pressurize the system even with the key out of the car (like when the fuel pump operates when you open a door).

That will keep you busy for at least a couple of hours!:naughty:

Anyone know an easy way to tell if i have a LSD or not? My service advisor mentioned something about having a performance rearend, and on a recent estimate for bumper damage, positraction showed up on the options list (odd, since i thought that was a GM term). With the car in the air, spinning one wheel causes the other to spin in the opposite direction (leads me to think open diff), but the 2 or 3 burnouts I have done were definately spinning both tires instead of the peg-leg burnout of an open diff. What gives? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I believe, SL55s equipped with the 030 Performance Package got an LSD, a higher VMAX and 2peice wheels.

I use BG synthetic fluids and lubricants. Works very well. Royal Purple and Redline are also great.

Mercedes Benz: Factory Approved Service Products Catalog do not pint point what brand and specs. of oil they use for the 722.6 transmission - anybody knows whats in the bottle? .......

kittyandgary 03-13-2014 09:36 AM

Do a search for: Mercedes Benz Factory Approved Service Products 2007

This is a PDF, and lists all the approved (including non MB products) fluids for cars from about mid 90's through 2007. VERY HELPFUL.

Wish I remembered where I got mine, so I could provide a link.

Here is another source: http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevoli...ets-sort1.html

PS: for ATF: TItan 4134, and a Shell 3403 M115(or maybe 134), as well as Valvoline MaxLife are approved

GermanCars 03-17-2014 10:10 PM

Shell 134 ATF is what we use in our customer cars. Not the easiest brand to find, which is why I mentioned O.E. ATF. Other brands may work fine but we prefer to stick to know quantities.

Great! Thanks a lot for the info ..... I'm also going for a Quaife LSD - any detailed suggestion of what to use of lubricant?

Wait, I thought that the SL55 came with LSD from the factory. Why pull it to put in a Quaife?

quaiffe = 1000x better in terms of performance and clamping/lockup on torque. Yet another great mod my car has done to it :) You're in DC so you're local if looking for an awesome SL55 let me know I'm selling mine dirt cheap and you can come feel the difference in the Q-LSD.

okbarnett 03-19-2014 07:54 PM

I dont know if perf pkg was available for 03 to 06 but it was in 07, 08, and its the only way to get lsd

IngenereAMG 03-19-2014 11:26 PM

Only 030 Package cars had LSD from the factory.

I have a pdf of all the fluids if anyone needs them... PM your email.

spawnywhippet 10-18-2018 02:40 PM

I have just bought a 110k mile 2006 SL55 AMG with P30 Performance Package. There is no owners handbook with the car.

I got no service records with the car other than a recent receipt for the ABC overhaul and some brakes, so I plan to do a complete fluid, belt, filter and plug replacement using genuine Mercedes, or equal quality aftermarket parts.

I have the Mercedes Benz Factory Approved Service Products 2007 pdf which lists approved fluids, but not quantities. A quick trawl of the usual online wholesale parts vendors didn't clear it up, as they all seem to list different fluids, capacities and filters for my car.
Can anyone confirm the following information is accurate, and if I am missing anything?

Fluids
Oil: 9 quarts Mobil 1 5W40
Transmission 722.6: xx quarts Pentosin 7226FCK1 ?

I have a 2007 SL 55 without the performance package. It does have a LSD from factory. Within the 770 package that the car came with is a code R01 which indicates limited slip differential.

Attached is the build sheet found under the carpet in front of the passenger seat.

There's a huge debate between 75W140 and 85W90 here on MBworld.

Even though it says 75W140 is for LSD only people are using for their regular AMG's..

Can anyone confirm? Every website is also only seeling 75W140 and it's listed as compatible..FCP,RM,AutoHauz, Etc..?

spawnywhippet 01-16-2019 12:35 PM

I used the 75W140 in my 06 SL55 AMG with LSD, and 85W90 in my C63 AMG without LSD.

Yep, that sounds right. But i'm reading people putting 75W140 with no issues in ther non-LSD..I'll go back and read more.

As for Transmission Fluid

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aut...ntosin-1088216

I found this and it says it's backwords compatabile..if it's junk I'll go with Mobil 1 OEM..

I wan to do all this in the spring for routine maintenance and get it out of the way
