Oil level 4.9 quarts normal?

I was playing with the dyno mode and saw the oil level thing. When I first started the car with dyno mode it shows the oil level is 5.5 quarts and it started to drop to 4.9 quarts. Is this normal? I thought SL55 should have about 8.5 quarts, no? When I start the car normally there's no message shown and no warning lights tho. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I got my last Service B, I was charged for 10 qts from MB of Houston. I would say that 4.9 definitely is cause for further investigation.

The oil level readings while the engine is running are useless - get a reading after the engine stopped for about 30 minutes - the reading should be at 8.5 qt.

x2............If your motor is running then half(or more) of your oil is up in the engine and not sitting in the oil pan where it's measured.
