Aftermarket Replacement Shocks/Springs for ABC system

Hey guys! Has anyone ever come up with some type of aftermarket replacement parts for our ABC suspension, i.e. NON-hydraulic shocks/springs, etc? I find it very disturbing that since almost EVERYONE has had an issue with the system, I will have this issue as well (I plan to keep it forever). Im up to about 70K so I am keeping my eyes open. I have been taking good care of the system with filters, flush, etc.

I have done some research and have a good understanding of how it works and it makes me curious if it can be replaced. There are other hydraulic or air suspension systems for other makes and models that after a while, someone developed a simple shock/spring replacement to eliminate the troublesome system. Has anyone ever developed that for our cars? SL55 ?

I remember about a year or so ago, someone on here was talking about doing some research to see if it id possible. Thanks!

I think Arnott was working on something like that. Not sure what happened with that.

Did anyone ever figure out if there is some way to replace our ABC suspension with a conventional strut/spring or coilover setup?

If mine goes out in the future i would be interested in this option. I do have some fabrication experience, but if anyone else has already done some research id rather start where they left off vs starting from scratch.

arnott is providing remanufactured shocks with lifetime warranty.

get four of those and the new and updated valve blocks from mb and you are golden.

besides, working on your abc strengthens the bond with your car

There is a importer/rebuilder of Mercedes components in Ft Lauderdale FL who sells the parts required to convert our high end R230's to a ROW (Rest Of the World) base model suspension system. Just remember that there is more to the conversion than popping on a set of coilovers. Because the ABC struts mount too far inboard, start off by replacing both front lower control arms and ball joints to ones that work with the shocks/springs. Since ABC doesn't use sway bars, you are going to need to add bars, links, and bushings front and rear. Finally, replace the two stage ABC/Power Steering pump with a standard V8 P/S pump, brackets, and maybe hoses.

Anyone care to add up the parts and labor cost
And hopefully the end result wouldn't ride like my wife's C63
