Benz-Works Lightweight 2-Piece Floating Rotors & AMG steering wheel...

http://benz-works.com/2011/08/amg-power-house/?ref=nf
Went to Serges NEW shop on Sat for install of both, Benz-Works Rotors are not only flat-out beautiful but I finally see what I've been missing ALL these years, IDK about the rest of you but I am extremely connected to my cars performance accross the board (I've read others reviews on similar products & honestly didn't expect what I actually got)
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/39fb34f9.jpg
I thought the real world Post install difference vs STOCK Rotors (SL600 biturbo is the only 600 model that comes STANDARD w/AMG Calipers/Rotors) wouldn't be noticed in the daily type of surface street driving we ALL endure, I thought it'd be much more apparent in a twisty track type of setting etc..
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/c1e81872.jpg
Well, I was wrong & boy was I glad to be wrong in this instance.. The SL feels like she lost much, much, more than the actual 36 lb total unsprung weight loss. Directly after install I proceded to take her thru the paces, (Serges NEW
shop is surrounded by nothing but nice newer paved roads in modern industrial area)

(I brought a new steering wheel w/me that I bought elsewhere & Serge,
installed it lickity-split)
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/48397522.jpg

:naughty: So I took off down a completely empty stretch of road pedal to the metal, then a quick test of brakes (NEW Akebono pads @ all 4 corners) the SL
reacted much better vs STOCK, then a few shakedown hard turns w/slight drift-powerslides coming out of turns until traction was a bit of an issue. I quickly realized the BEAST was on a NEW level w/Vengence:X

Everything improved from Response/Acceleration/Braking/Handling etc it's
totally noticable to me, I'm extremely pleased w/the NEW Rotors etc Top that off with great time @ Benz-Works Serge, is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, & a genuine enthusiast on ALL things to do w/FAST autos. I'll def be back for more mods, Thank You very much Serge! The shop's beautiful very
impressive:y

The Rotors on the SL600 are not AMG only the calipers...

Unless your car was somehow ordered special the SL600 has smaller rotors then the SL65 AMG. The front SL600 rotors are 360mm (14.2 inches)one piece cast iron Rotors where the SL65 front rotors are much larger at 390mm (15.4 inches) and are multi part with Alloy hats. THe SL65 Rotors even though they are larger actually weigh less... Only the calipers are the same.

Call MB to order a front rotor for an SL600 and it is $260 order a front rotor for an SL65 and they list at around $1,200 each!

Although Benz-Works rotors do look great and saving 36 lbs is an amazing amount of unsprung weight... Do they make them in 390mm?

You're correct. But Sean is comparing them to SL55 AMG brakes, not SL65. He is correct there, they are identical.

OH! Looks amazing Sean! How does initial bite feel? Is it more grabby, for lack of a better word?

EXECMALIBU 11-07-2011 01:14 PM

Benz-O-Rama... I think the Calipers are from the SL65

I believe that the SL600 has the larger SL65 front calipers...

xpl0sive 11-07-2011 01:36 PM

i thought the biggest calipers AMG has are the 8 piston ones shared between the SL/S/CLS models...

110% correct bud.. Where did I say ANYTHING ABOUT 65 model ANYTHING?? Everyone knows they are the biggest STOCK Rotors & 2 piece WTF??

I was ONLY comparing the OEM SL600 Rotors & Calipers to that found on the SL55 or ANY 55K model car, to be precise the rear rotors on SL600 arent drilled though retain exact same sizes etc..

Some blowhards never change, Execmalibu just go away please I stay out of your threads please give me the same respect

Did you upgrade your brake lines to stainless steel and are you using stock brake fluid?

Looking good Sean! Too bad I couldnt stay longer at Benz-Works to see the beast in person, maybe next time.

All you have left to work on is that interior wood trim........ and so do I:D

Havoc 11-09-2011 02:18 PM

I'm with URnext :y

Ooops.

Whoever painted this caliper put the Brembo decal on upside down. Bottom of the lettering is always closest to the hub. In case you want to fix it someday . . .

150shot 11-09-2011 05:51 PM

These rotors fit on stock calipers? whats the cost on a front pair? thanks

Thericker 11-09-2011 06:56 PM

I installed Evosport's lightweight rotors and HRE wheels and the difference was remarkable.

Yeah, it's truly impressive... I'd easily put these mods right up @ the top w/MUST DO ECU/TCU/Wheels/ETC I totally understand why high-end car makers are nearly ALL adding Ceramic or 2 piece floating brakes along w/other go fast tricks like Shorter gearing to big engine N/A setups, desprate to compete w/ALL the new Forced Induction variants & or making Super cars well.. SUPER w/a Set of proper brakes & gearing..:y

I'm either buying 18-20 lb CCW's or a set of Forgestars for frnt coupled w/my rear 12.7 lb CLK320 Hoosier setup & then we'll FINALLY see what my 633 rwp/750+ rwtq can do in 1/4
Jeremy's retune w/109 should easily add 25-30 rwp accross entire band.. & Bruce @TTMotorsports gave me another (2) ideas that should easily add another 25-30 rwp on my setup... 1 of my goals has always been to make (on same DynoJet I've used since Bone Stock @ 445-450 rwhp can't remember exact # But I do have old charts.. & use every thing NO cats,109 tune, igloo full of ice, etc to see how close I can get to 700 rwhp on Stock Turbs) & of course TRUE TEST 1/4 mi Track Data.. BEFORE we upgrade Turbo's to latest from Garrett & Tial wheels

Good luck with those mods! You'll be running strong!!

I'm in the middle of a upgrade project myself: TTM fuel rail, TTM injectors, larger TB (80mm to 82mm bored out to 85mm) with a TTM ported inlet, Eurocharged tune.

It never ends!

Don't kid yourself bro! :rolf:

So both you and your SL are going for ultra ripped look, nice! :y

How much weight do you think you dropped from all of your mods? Did the widebody kit allow you to shed some decent weight?
