2013 SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary Edition - All new M279 V12TT *pics*
I hope you didn't hold your breath for this one. Nothing new on the surface except for a matte carbon fiber cover instead of a glossy one... :nix:
From what I could see, airboxes, throttle body and intercoolers looked the same as the M275. http://www.v12biturbo.com/site/_uplo.../M279/1000.jpg http://www.v12biturbo.com/site/_uplo.../M279/1001.jpg http://www.v12biturbo.com/site/_uplo.../M279/1002.jpg http://www.v12biturbo.com/site/_uplo.../M279/1003.jpg http://www.v12biturbo.com/site/_uplo.../M279/1004.jpg http://www.v12biturbo.com/site/_uplo.../M279/1005.jpg |
dip stick is a nice touch:bow:
|
I think it was actually just a plug.. still no dipstick.
|
Nicer plug though.....
Headlights still too bug eyed and busy for my taste.... |

Cool...now we can wait 3 years and see it depreciate 100K...:)...and yes...the headlights seem a bit too busy.
|
The cold air intake tubes appear to be a little less restrictive.
BTW, thanks for the pictures! |

Its has new turbos, direct injection along with the 7 speed transmission. It may appear the same on the outside, but those three changes probably have the tuners holding their breath waiting to see what they can do to it.

Are you 100% sure it has direct injection ?
http://www.windingroad.com/articles/...benz-sl65-amg/ But most blogs and onlines magazines are saying direct injection. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...mg_first_look/ So no, I'm not 100% sure. |
Depreciation
Only 100K in 3 years? I was thinking $ 120K....

Yeah that's why I was asking...
If somebody has solid informations about it, share it here ! The M279 is NOT direct injected, the main difference between the M275 and the M279 is the new turbochargers, new exhaust manifolds and better emissions tuning. Also has a new alternator to support the eco start/stop mode. The engine also had a lot of fine tuning. Everything else is the same. |
I wonder how the eco start-stop sounds? I know my car is pretty loud with it's starts... here's a clip I recorded: http://www.v12biturbo.com/site/_upload/w220s65start.mp3

I asked a friend of mine who is an engine builder at Mercedes-AMG, and he confirms the following:

I wonder if they have modified the notoriously crappy intercooling system |
