Consumer Electrics Offline !!!!!!!

Good old Flacky Mercedes issues......

Consumer electrics not working or offline.....AKA..... you cant do nothing nice for a few miles!!!!!!!!

Well i have had this since i bought the SL55, popped up the next day!!! having done a search it would appear its never going to go away, unless the battery is replaced, then i will be facing the same issue in 6-8 months!!!!

My questions are this....

I have charged the rear battery and it appears to hold the charge well, however, 2 days later, same thing on the dash for a few miles!!

The battery does look fairly new, a Bosch platinum type - surly this is not spent in a year or so..?

Is there not enough charge going to rear battery?

Should i sell the car, because they have baggage (just joking)

Seriously i have had a Porsche Turbo Cab for nearly 6 years, it has never missed a beat, in all the time I have owned the car it has needed a battery.

This SL55 AMG is not in the same league!!!!!!!!!

Ps...what is that squeaky, poor quality door pockets about!!

Ta..

I don't know if you lock it when you park it (at home?). But the drain on the battery is less when locked than when unlocked.

Anyway, batteries can go in a year or in 5 or 10 it seems...

I've installed a trickle charger socket on the battery so that I can plug it in fast when I park it for longer than a day or two.

I consider this issue a minor nuisance (or perhaps even an eccentricity) seeing that it's such a wonderful car in all other aspects (if nothing else breaks down of course).

I drive it everyday it's my daily driver, I like the car but to say its wonderful is wrong.

I have to say I held out for a good one being the so called f1 pace car, and I have to say its been disappointing, these cars have to many issues to be wonderful.

Anyway rant over, I am where I am

the battery in any mercedes is a consumable- like oil, brake pads, etc.

every 3-5 years tops you should be replacing them. the mb cars have a somewhat high draw at rest/ sleep compared to the rest so batteries do not have an easy life.

Don't just buy a bog standard trickle charger, invest a few quid more and go for something like a Ctek. It's a battery conditioner which is streets ahead in the way it maintains a battery.
You can choose to hard wire a feed to the terminal posts or just attach with crocodile clips - both supplied with the kit.
If your battery hasn't been too fully drained, this will be able to revive it.
UK weather is going to be awful this weekend for the most part so pick one up and leave it on from Friday night to Monday morning - would be my advice.

Hope that helps.

I have left my cars for weeks, unlocked, and never had a problem. Sounds like you have a drain.

This is the only time I get this warning...when the car sits for extended periods of time over the winter.

It can be a model year issue. Some serious stuff has been fixed along the line (battery drain amongst it). The older models have serious ABC issues and battery drain for no reason while later models have none (or less) of these problems.

My SL is from 2002 while being model year 2003. I had a lot of sh¡t that newer models don't have.

Mines a 2004/54 model.

Beginning to regret buying it................

Super charger pump
Crankshaft position sensor
Leaks
Creaks
Bushes
Exhaust back box mounts
Rear load cover switch
Battery drains
Rear light LED going out
Cuddly toy!!!

All have been fixed and im wondering what the hell is next !!!

Seriously fragile flaky cars with unacceptable issues for a 110k + car, i know of a friend who bought one a year old and had a mountain of issues, should have listened to him!!!

Not impressed at all with my experience so far, damn thing better come good !!

Of all the things that go wrong on these cars, this is one thing that doesn't deserve to worry much about. Buy a new battery and be done with it.

First of, the car has two batteries, a small starter battery in front and a consumer battery in the back, used for all other electronics in the car. The front end starter battery is used only for staring the car and is always charched, also from the battery in the back. Burglar alarm, GPS trackers and mobile car kits, are known to drain the consumer battery very fast, depending on location and arial connectivity of GPS tracker and mobile kits.

If the car have any after mounted electronics mounted "the wrong way", that might leed to car electronics not going into sleep mode, and thereby draining battery very fast.

A trickle charge works wonderful on these cars, parked for a week or more.
