SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: New Jag
the exhaust note
it's rather furry, farty sounding, caused by the ovalend pipe blowing at the square tail tips. Now the new Jaguar F type was
on Top Gear and the exhaust was lovely and clear, although slightly
higher in tone, but it was the V6 not the V8. Now I don't know why MB
designed the exhaust this way, but I am seriously considering having the
tail tips joined properly to the end pipe.
I wonder if it will compromise the performance ?
I am not concerned with the shape of the tail pipes, what concerns me is
the exhaust system ends with a large oval pipe, this blows gasses on to
the holes in the square tips which are bolted to the body. If you joined them
you would have to un bolt the square tail pipes which are joined to the body.
Putting it plainly, the exhaust would become one, instead of ending underneath and blowing at the tail pipes, a bit like an R8.
a pipe with water going down it, where it ends leave an inch or so and put
another pipe in line with it. Then turn on the tap, when the water reaches the
end it will go every where, it certainly wont mystically jump the gap and go
down the pipe an inch away, but then if you have enough pressure a great
deal of water will jump the inch into the other pipe, but rather messy.
Well that's how the SL63 exhaust works, the pipe being your exhaust and
the pipe in line about an inch away is the square tail pipes.
