Does the heat soak from the under bonnet intakes make that big a difference when the car is up and running? The flow of air at 80-100mph must be huge, so I would be surprised if the heat from the engine would make any difference at that point. I can see it making a difference on the dyno as fans can't replicate the true air flow at those kind of speeds. I may look into moving my intakes in front of the raidiator however i think this may delay the speed that the turbos will spool due to the extra length of the piping.
I have also just received my TCU back from Eurocharged but have not been able to run my car as it is still having work done. I would like to know what kind of difference you have found with the TCU upgrade.
Racehorse you have said that your PB was done using stock exhaust and air boxes, does this mean you think that the stock setup is better or is their other reasons why you have not gone quicker with a modified setup?

No, you will still see really bad heat soak even at speed. Dump that horrible intake asap and get some cold air in front of the radiator. Those little turbos spool very quickly. Don't fool yourself with that intake.

The stock air boxes can't keep up with the volume of air needed as you increase power. When fed the proper amount of air, paired with a nice tune, these motors have the potential to damage and/or break many stock parts on a sticky track with drag radials. It would be easy to set a new personal record, but I don't want to damage my car trying, just for bragging rights.

^ My fear exactly. I love going to the track in my other cars but they are tremendously cheaper to repair if something goes wrong which with my dsm it usually does. Saying that I still plan to get the 65 out to the track a time or two just to see if I can't break it into the 10.4-10.5 range. After talking to Phil he thinks that my coil packs are the source of the breaking up. I originally got a cylinder 8 misfire then cleared that and another few pulls it had spread to 7,8,and 9 I believe.

The SLs seem to have a tougher time with weight transfer. Hard launches pop up the roll bar. Launching at around 2500 RPM will give you a better shot off the line but part do get stressed big time with the torque these motors make.

Mod 4, I changed the hood badge and steering wheel badge to the Affalterbach emblems. Got them from eBay, also got the rear deck badge but not sure how to install it as it comes with screws... The sellers eBay name was "japan_lighting" and the shipping time was average.
Europhria - how many mm was your hood badge?

Just ordered Speedriven catless 3" downpipes and idler pulleys. I've read a lot of back and forth on Marcin and Speedriven and will honestly say I was/am a bit hesitant. I've never had dealings with them so I thought it best to give them a shot for myself. So far I've been able to get Marcin on the phone and he has responded within 30 minutes of every email. He gave me a really good deal on shipping and answered a slew of questions I had with great patience. He said everything would ship Monday, 4-13. I am on the road and wont be home until the 24th of this month so I'll update with pictures then.
Does anyone have any video of a 65 straight piped, no cats, mufflers? I'm already running muffler delete. Also does anyone know if a aftermarket sl55 heat exchanger would fit on a 65?

I would be interested to hear the catless straight exhaust at speed if anyone has a clip. I'd also like to check out cold start up

What kind of damage can be done disconnecting the batteries out of order?
Speedriven update: My downpipes and idler pulleys arrived today. Shipping was very fast. I'm not home so I can't take any pictures at the moment but am excited to get a little more noise out of this thing and let it breathe better. I didn't get a shipping confirmation or anything but did exchange another email with Marcin which was responded to within 10 minutes. Marcin is knowledgeable and was willing to help so I can honestly say I will be ordering more from him in the near future.

Picture update. I was able to get home and take some pictures oh the downpipes and how they were packaged before I left for Taipei for work. They were bundled up really well, bubble wrap, peanuts, and airbags. Also Marcin threw on the o2 sensor extensions to keep me from throwing codes since I'm cat less. I was wrong on the delivery date for the pulleys though. They arrived 2 weeks after ordering. I didn't know they were shipped separate. Everything looks great, the downpipes are just shy of 3". Once I'm home for the summer I'll get everything put on after some white lightening coating to keep heat down and load up some video clips.

Update
Finally had enough home time to get the downpipes, coil-packs, and plugs done over the past weekend. I went a heat range colder on the plugs than factory. I'll be back on the rollers soon working a custom tune with Eurocharged instead of the flash I have from them. I'm currently running open catless downpipes until my mandrel bends arrive. I will post video clips tomorrow.
Stock exhaust down and I thought it was interesting how it transitions from round to oval in a few different spots. I'm curious how this affects flow turbulence.
Also ceramic coated the downpipes to help with the heat. I wanted to have them Swaintech White Lightening coated but it was a 3 week turn around and I wasn't interested in waiting that long.
Oh and heres a picture of inside the hotside of the turbo. Much smaller than I was expecting.
How come I can't edit my previous post?

Great project and fantastic post. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. With the exception of the engine mods (I'm keeping mine to ECU and TCU upgrades only), I'm modding the body along your project. Can't find a 60mm AMG hood badge though...looking for black and silver badge.
I have updated exhaust with Meisterschaft and am very pleased with the sound...growl and gurgle; explosive. Reminds me of my BOSS 302 only a deeper sound.
Again, great post. Thanks!
