SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: euphoriaDSM SL65 Build Journal

Racehorse, thanks for the compliments. I do agree with you to a certain extent on the interccolers, however I noticed a healthy power increase once they were installed even before being retuned for them. But since install I have noticed it also takes much less time for me to get heat soaked. As for my cooling mods everything is stock minus the intercoolers, that is why I asked if any 65 guys had run killerchiller before I started adding heat exchangers and different pumps.
I'd bet the gain in power was from the removal of restrictive stock air boxes. Did you ever trying running your custom intake before adding the intercoolers? When I added my catless downpipes you could feel the car run out of breath around 4000-4500 rpms with the stock air boxes.

I guessed wrong, lol. That's good to know. Did you add any other mods at the same time or just the larger intercoolers? I'm not sure, but either way you gotta get additional cooling one way or another, otherwise you are leaving alot on the table as you already know.

As far as the plugs I run the stock plugs. I haven't had any issues running MS109 WOT in the mile a handful of times, even the mile and a half once hitting the 200mph mark. I'm not sure if I'm leaving anything on the table, but I don't want to be playing games guessing with an alternate and getting misfires. There are just too many plugs, and not so easy to get to.
On another note when are you going to beat this record of 212mph in a SL65? If this was a little closer or if I was a little less responsible with my money, I'd love to give this a shot. Living in NY makes this a $4-6k event for shipping, flights and hotels, loss of work, bla, bla, bla. Then my wife is going to think she deserves more than a $15 per week allowance if we have that kind of money to burn. Haha... Anyway, see the link below if you already haven't. The website shows this car hitting 184-185 in the 1 Mile, it only makes me wonder what my car would do given a little more distance.

Never heard of that event but have it bookmarked now!! After looking around I think I'm gonna run the Meziere pump up front as it seems to be the better pump and run Weistec's water/meth kit.

Good video from the Renntech SL65!
Here is a Video from the new Brabus Rocket 900 (S65) - which shows 211,5 MPH but after 1,86 Miles instead of 2,3 Miles.
There was a lot of knocking on Brabus-Tuning in the past here on MBWorld, but this big heavy S-Class seem to be running strong.

Not to get too far off topic, but I think most of the brabus criticism was cost. For most of us their products are out of reach. Very impressive to say the least.
The globs of torque is what helps these car up top, but for drag racing and sticky tires it just breaks parts when you try to utilize it off the line.

I know complete Brabus conversion is way too expensive, at least for me.
Your car is reference for me what can be achieved with stock turbos. Renntech gets 185 mph in the mile with just 700 CRANK HP. Your car is a little faster with ??? Crank HP. Brabus claims 900 Crank HP which should be spprox.800 whp on a Dynojet.
When I compare your speed for 1 mile and 1.5 mile and what you gained from 1 to 1.5 miles and put it in relation to 211 Mph from Brabus at 1.83 miles, it shows me the 900 HP Claim from Brabus is realistic. Of course we dont no exactly the drag, which fuels were used and wind rtc.
But the first comparison shows me the Rocket 900 is one of the fastest and strongest M275/M279 out here. And the power is there up to redline when you see how fast it gets in 6th gear redline. When I remember correctly it shifts into 7th nearly at 340 Kmh.So not only torque in the midrange but also HP on top of the revrange (because of the bigger turbos and nice manifolds)

Ok so I'm having a starting issue. The car was doing the typical not starting while hot nonsense last summer and replaced the crank sensor and all was well. Now the car refuses to start period. Turns over like normal and all accessories work with no warring lights. Batteries are fully charged as they stay on a charger. I don't hear the fuel pump prime when turning the car to the on position like normal so I'm wondering how do you tell if it's the pump that's bad or the control unit. Any suggestions would be great.

How old is your battery up front? Had the same issue with starting and turned out that the battery upfront was old and the car refused to start because of the lower voltage.

The battery is a year old and both batteries sit on tenders when not in use. I changed the fuel pump relay and still a no go but did finally get a cel for the d@mn cps. Going to swap that out again and see.

Changed the wing from the carbon SL63 style to JBSpeed's Vorsteiner wing and think it looks great. This is my 3rd wing from JBSpeed and shipping is always fast and the products looks good.Ffitment however has always been a little wonky, not sitting flush on the deck lid but always get it to lay down. Selling the carbon SL63 wing if interested, $100 plus shipping and it's in perfect shape.

Friend shot a video of the car before I do the widebody conversion. Enjoy.

Awesome video, the car looks great, if its okay to share opinions, keep it as is, it will never be the same. Even the face lift is dated now, the round headlights are the classic look of the SL. Spend the money making it faster. The wider track with look cool, but slow it down.
Regardless of what you do, good luck with the car. You've kept it clean, I'm sure it will look amazing either way.

I'm slowly starting to agree that the look is classic and have had 2nd thoughts. However I've wanted to do the kit since I got the car and already have everything but headlight harness.

Please keep us posted on how the upgrade goes.. I just ordered the front bumper lower lip and a Black series style hood that fits the 07 headlights from Serona. But I am open minded about the wide body kit.

Whatever you decide, it looks like you will handle it tastefully in any event, so good luck with the path you take.
