sbc pump compatibility

hello i have a 2003 sl55 with a bad sbc pump. the part number on the bad old pump is a004319712. i have located another used pump but the part number is A0054319712. is this part compatible with my car not sure if the esp module will be able to communicate with it. i have a 2008 version of star diagnosis which doesnt use scn coding. will coding be nessesary?
thanks

call mercedes they can tell you. if i recall when i replaced mine they said the original pump numbers have been superceded around 15 times by new updated part numbers.

its hit or miss if you get a helpful parts manager that will tell you. i had to call a couple dealers until i found someone that would tell me if the part would fit.

the part number you give for the old pump appears to be shy one digit.
are you looking to replace the pump only? the accumulator as well? or the whole SBC unit?

I had my accumulator start to fail last year on my 2003 SL55 (approx $600 online or $1200 at the dealer IIRC) but I put if off (as it was only giving a message, not a red screen) then within 2 months my SBC unit "timed out/ counted out" ... So I replaced the whole SBC unit (which sadly was less than 6 months out of warranty).

I would strongly recommend that you buy an entire remanufactured SBC from Mercedes. I bought one and installed it myself last year and it was about $800 for the whole unit (OEDISCOUNTPARTS.COM). Installing any used parts at this point makes no sense as this unit has a finite life in that it "counts out" after a finite number of brake pedal applications (300,000 ... 350,000?) and then shuts itself down. I am surprised yours has not counted out yet.

Mercedes extended the warrenty (in the US) to 10 years on the SBC unit on 2003 R230s, but like mine, your car has probably passed that period as well. The Star is helpful for doing the deactivation, bleeding, and then re-activation of the SBC system. Your Star will likely tell you that the new SBC needs to be reprogrammed (if it is not connected to MBZ to confirm latest programming of SBC) ... my Star is newer (but not connected to network) and told me the SBC needed new programming SO, I took it to the local MBZ dealer and he took my $145 and told me the replacement SBC was already programmed properly (apparently they all ship with the latest programming now).

cheers,
Chris
