SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Wanted SL65 Wheels

Wanted SL65 Wheels
The factory original wheels on my 2005 SL65 are a little beat up. I am about to send them in to be refurbished as new.
Then I got to thinking that a lot of guys go to aftermarket wheels. So, if anyone has a set of AMG wheels in perfect or near perfect condition and want to sell them let me know.

I had a tough time finding ones that weren't cracked & welded/repaired for less than $2500 (no tires...)

TTtodd if you decide to refurbish would you please post your review of the job? I've had refurbs done on several of my cars with fantastic results. However, the spokes on the '05 SL65 have a beautiful smokey grey finish which I think would be impossible to duplicate. If I get my SL65 wheels refurbed I think I'll only get the outer portions of the rim touched up.

Viper .. I agree, good wheels are harder to find than I thought. I just thought these would be a dime a doz .. I am soo wrong.
One thing that concerns me is dented and welded repaired wheels.
Are these wheels prone to denting? Are they just not that strong?
Maybe I should consider stronger aftermarket wheels?
carlsturm .. I did talk with the wheel dude and he knew exactly what wheel I was talking about. He was confident he could do it. He said they started with black then over coated to match. That makes sense , if you look at the wheel center the back of them are black. Only the front is the silver/black color. I called it black chrome and he knew right away.
I only have a few minor defects so Im sure I will just have them re done.

I was going to go down the same road and actually bought a set off eBay..... What a nightmare! Seller forgot? to mention one of the wheels had a repaired crack that looked like I welded it.... Then, he painted the barrel matt silver (the others are NOT painted but, a raw unfinished aluminum) and the dark gray centers were "refinished"...... errrr, painted with rattle cans and the paint was so thick it literally filled in the recessed AMG logos. Ultimately, eBay forced the seller to unwind the deal but, it did cost me $100 to send them back to the DB!!!!! Stayed with my OZs... I've read over the years about many of this style wheel having issues with cracking.... Could be wrong but.....

Big fan of the OZ wheels here. I have had them on my Porsche turbo.
Light and super strong. They even make a set that very closely mimics the SL65 wheel.

Problem is on this car I promised myself I would keep this car 100% stock.
I know me too well. First is starts with wheels and tires, then might as well get a tune, well **** might as well get injectors .... oh okay i think in will get those bigger turbos .. oh and I should get intercoolers ect ect
been there done that too many times

This is the route I went. I almost bought the ST4's, but ended up being some other replica's instead. The ST4's are nice, but are slightly more flat-faced when compared to the stockers. I went to a newer design replica wheel.
I figured it was a dumb idea to buy OEM wheels that were WELDED and known to CRACK for $2500+, when I could buy replicas (even if they're cheap chinese ones) for $800. I could break my chinese reps, buy another set, and buy the next set after that, compared to buying one set of known-to-crack used OEM wheels.

Oh and as much as I'd like a set of HRE's, I just can't afford that kind of money on wheels...not worth it to me at least, right now...

The factory Sl65 wheels are extremely soft and they bend very easily!! They are not strong enough for the weight of the R230...
I have have had several sets that were in absolutely perfect original condition. They looked like brand new not a mark on them... But when you spun them some of the inside edges had flat spots.
On my SL65 I must have hit a pot hole because the inside rears had flat spots. It had absolutely no evidence of contact or damage to the rim or the tire but must have bent through the low profile tires.
Wheels that are so soft that they can be bent through the contact solely of the tires is ridiculous!

Trying my best to stick with the stock theme I threw caution to the wind and had the originals refurbished. They turned out well, not perfect but 100 times better than they were. The guy matched the center pretty well. I would say 9 out of 10. He didnt refinish the whole center but repaired the flaws and blended in to the excising color. I think that was a good idea. Most of the original coating is still there.
All four rims were out of round. Not bent per say as you not could see it by eye.
They are perfectly straight now.
The rim guy also said all rims 19 and over bend and thought these rims were of better quality than most. He had a whole shop full of bent rims from every car manufacture as well as aftermarket ones.
