Kleemann upgrades m113k '07

Heya All -

I am considering the Kleemann K2 package for my '07 SL55 in the Dallas area (a non-stock new Mustang shamed her and she is now angry). I have had several eMails with Cory @ Kleemann in Colorado and the only issue I have is with the State inspection and removing the primary CATs when installing the headers.

Cory stated I should find a shop that has 'Start Diagnostic System (SDS) with “developer-mode”. It’s also referred to as a DAS machine (Diagnosis Assistance System) with ‘developer-mode’, or even a “developer-level DAS machine”- '

I'm wondering if anyone in the Dallas/Ft Worth area knows of a shop with that device?

you can buy the STAR system yourself. One fully setup ready to go will run you 600-800 and will pay for itself many times over the years.

I'm in california and concerned about the inspection process as well.

I added some Kleeman headers (with a Jet-hot coating) to my 2003 SL55 last year and could not be happier (just dyno'd at 521 RWHP a few weeks ago : )

When I installed mine, I anticipated that I'd have to make it easy to swap back to stock for inspections, so I added v-band joints into the stock exhaust and then added the headers with the joint at the same place so I could go back and forth.

I also noted that SL55s DON"T have the transmission to exhaust supports that many other AMG models do, so rather than adding the flex-joints that are prone to fail, I added some (modified) E55 xmission to exhaust supports to help protect the headers from the damage than can occur when the engine twists about the drive-line axis. I also re-enforced the bottom cover with a sheet of aluminum where I need to cut reliefs for the new supports.

Getting your own Star das is a good idea in any case. You can get a good clone (with developer mode) from 500-800. Shardul was selling nicely equipped Star systems with some support at one time, you may want to send him a note. You will need the developer kit'd star so you can turn off your rear oxygen sensors (re-code #182 from "ein" to "aus")

you already have a slightly upgraded throttle body (your car came with the "80"), so you may be ok there (I went with an 82 and no regrets).

On my car, I did not go crazy on the boost, just a slightly larger crank pulley (168mm) and a slightly smaller SC pulley (turned my stock pulley down 4mm).

good luck with the mustangs,

I'll post a few pics of the exhaust, I have more if anyone wants to see them.

Cheers,
Chris

If your turn off the rear 02 sensors via DAS you will not get a CEL, but the monitors will not reset and it will still rear rear readiness incomplete when you go to do a state inspection. Only way around is to pay a shop to get it passed.

Thats what i had to do. Talk to some of the local tuning shops. They usually know who to send you too.

Thanks for all the great info and must admit the last vehicle I worked on is my '93 BMW 850Ci.. please don't hate me... she is still in the garage waiting.

I am considering the following from a MB dealer I do trust.
BOOST KIT. INCLUDES ENGINE AIR FILTERS, HIGHER PSI CRANK PULLEY, ECU TUNE. (THE SOLID PULLEY IS NO LONGER OFFERED AS IT WAS CAUSING UNDUE VIBRATIONS IN THE CRANK ASSEMBLY. THE ONE OFFERED WILL BE DAMPENED LIKE THE ORIGINAL ONE.)
HEADERS. THIS WILL REMOVE THE FRONT CATS. THE REAR CATS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE. RESENATOR IS RECOMMENDED TO STAY IN PLACE AS IF IT IS REMOVED DRONNING WILL OCCUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE EXHAUST WITH FACTORY MUFFLERS WILL FLOW SUFFICENT.
TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPGRADE.
PER CORY, THE UPGRADED THROTTLE BODY IS NOT REQUIRED.

I have spoken with two local shops (one was related to Greta (my 850)) but I may not be asking the right questions.

Thanks for all insight..

I have a set of Kleemann SL55 headers, a pulley, and high flow air filters that are all 3 brand new that I'd be willing to part with for likely a lot less money than what the MB dealer would charge you for these parts. At that point you'd just need the engine and tranny tuning. Just PM me if interested. I bought all those parts, never put them on and am considering going with longtube headers and a bigger pulley, which is why I'm considering selling.

Since you're an 07 you already have the bigger 80mm TB and it wouldn't be nearly as big of an upgrade for you to move up to the 82mm. You may want to consider a limited slip diff as these cars didn't come with one from the factory (the car applies the brake to the wheel with the most wheel spin, which is less than ideal). That way you get all of the power to the ground in a more effective and efficient manner.

heya wtg -
mine is an '07 also and I love her. Spoken to several shops and none of them offer any 'alternative' since DFW has cracked down.

VIBRATIONS IN THE CRANK ASSEMBLY. THE ONE OFFERED WILL BE DAMPENED LIKE THE ORIGINAL ONE. the orginal is solid steel , no dampener, i taken it off and changed to weistec , so this i know.. crank pulley is best, then the belt have better grip around the stock compressor pulley,
