TPMS Option 475

Hi all,

I checked my SL vin data card, it shows it has the option 475 for tire pressure monitor system.

However, from the instrument cluster this option is not their as well as auto-fold mirror on lock.

So does my car has this tpms option ? how to activate it as well as the auto-fold mirror on lock option ?

Regards.

Does your car have folding mirrors? (does it have the manual fold button for the folding mirrors?) See attached picture, folding mirror manual fold button is at the bottom of the switch panel closest to the top-control pull-switch.

Have you seen if you get a notification for a low tire? (try dropping the pressure in a tire)

EDIT ... when you say, " from the instrument cluster this option is not their as well as auto-fold mirror on lock. " are you talking about menus accessed through the steering wheel buttons? or are you looking at the ICM programming in star?

It is possible that your TPMS has been turned off in STAR (changed from "PRESENT" to " NOT PRESENT") .

Your question about the auto-folding mirrors is how to add the "auto" functionality? (they currently work manually, correct?). This was not a US option (folding mirrors) for the 2003 sl, so the auto-fold upgrade for 2003 R230s is not common in the states. I seem to recall that Richard at comanonlineuk has helped folks with european-build R230s add this functionality. If you send him a note, I expect he would be happy to help. try him at sales@comandonline.co.uk

Hope that helps,
Chris

- yes i can fold them manually.
- yea i meant the acess menu not star.
My car is fitted with aftermarket wheels if that matters

it should. you should see metal valve stems with nut, if you have rubber valve stems there isnt any tpms. like I said before buy them on ebay or mercedes

this is the cheapest place I've found to buy TPMS sensors. You will need to as latemodel21 said go into STAR and change for the instrument cluster TPMS to present. From there on an 03 you have to start a learn procedure for the new sensors, which requires driving around for 10-15 minutes. Eventually the values for the TPMS sensors will then appear.

Yes, if somebody didnt shut off the tpms with star.
you can also go to a tire shop and they have a signal strength meter and can walk around wheels and read strength. if no signal, no sensors

I've installed 4 used tpms sensors for mercedes.

activated the RDK pressure tires sensor (not present to present)

now i found a menu in the instrument cluster shows the pressure unit (psi to bar)
and there is a car symbole with "--" at each tire .. Its not reading the pressure?

any idea ?

You must start the relearn procedure in the dash then drive for 15-20 minutes. The values will then show

I did drive for more than 30mins, nothing happened.
pressed the R button and it asked if i want to activate the sensors, and I choose yes, yet nothing happened.

I'm not quite sure are these the correct sensors for my car or not .. Bought them used and they are original mercedes benz ...

there are several different Mercedes benz frequencies that are used. A TPMS sensor off of one car may not work on another car if they use different frequencies. the cheapest place I have found TPMS sensors is http://www.oewheelsllc.com/TPMS. Searching for your specific model and year of car there will tell you which frequency you actually need. It is also possible, since they are used, that the batteries are shot in them.

03 would be 315mhz. should say that on the sensor. but my way is foolproof, have a tire shop or mb check signal strength with meter.
The one that took the sensors out may have disarmed it with star. I am sure you can turn the system off
