SL55 strut question

Hello everyone!

Recently my ABS lights turned on and I am currently looking to replace my struts. In my search to save a few bucks I heard that the sl55 and sl500 struts were the same. Someone mentioned that the only difference was the AMG sticker on the sl55 struts and that aside from that they are identical. Can anyone confirm this?? The only thing I know for sure is that they both have separate part numbers. I would really appreciate any members help on this one.

Try to keep in mind that the ride height settings for the AMG models are different than those of the stock non-AMG.

When you realize there are ride height sensors in the struts themselves, you might reconsider ad hoc replacement.

The struts do physically swap and appear identical, however inside the ABC strut is a steel coil spring. The spring rate is firmer on the AMG variant.

This is the kind of information i was looking for! Ok, so rather than bending over at the dealership.. anyone know where i can pick up a good rebuild kit? I found the strut tool on the forum already and also some helpful tips. Im still a little uncertain on weather or not im gonna need the "STAR" or if i could get away with bleeding the system somehow. As you can tell im a newb when it comes to these struts but not a noob to working on cars. With that said im a little hesitant on taking apart a 3000psi bomb without a little input.

I'll guess you meant to type "ABC" -- not "ABS". I'll also guess there is nothing wrong with your struts, and someone has misdiagnosed whatever problem it is you are trying to correct. But if you really do need to replace a strut you can save money by purchasing remanufactured from Arnott.

Yes, you are correct about ABC.
I am aware of arnott but unfortunately cannot buy from them because THEY NEVER HAVE THE FRONT STRUTS IN STOCK! That was my first option though.
