switch tire types?

I am getting near time to replace the OEM ContiSportContact tires on my 2013. Around 15k miles or so. Probably can get a little more. But not much.

Anyway, I am considering a new tire from Continental: ExtremeContactSport.

Fairly new and not a lot of feedback. Tire rating suggests it will get more treadwear. A little cheaper but not enough to sway the discussion.

Has anyone tried these? Any feedback? Any change to ride quality? Any change to grip or ride noise?

Thanks

I am going to be abandoning the Conti 5P.

My next tire set on the SL63 will either be the legacy (but still excellent) Pilot Super Sport, or the brand new next-gen Pilot Sport 4S which just went on sale in March.

May I ask: what about the Conti 5P do you not like? Is it traction and cornering? Or is it ride quality? Or tread wear?

The 5P actually lasts a long time and it is a really good tire. But they are more comparable to Michelin PS2 tire in terms of overall performance. The 5P was released somewhere in the 2010 timeframe. Michelin has since released the Pilot Super Sport (PSS), and now the PS4S. PSS was a big improvement over the PS2, and PS4S reviews seem to indicate the same trend over the PSS.

I went to 20" wheels all around and went with the Conti Extreme contacts. They got very good reviews on the Tire Rack site. Still waiting on my new wheels, but will post up my impressions when they are rolling

The difference between the Conti Sports and the Extreme Contacts is HUGE. They are so good!!! Much smoother over rough pavement. Fantastic gradual breakaway on slides. Soooo much confidence inspired by these tires. Best I have used on any car to date!!

Have you purchased your new tires yet? Which direction did you go? Any review yet?

I'm probably a year off from replacing tires. Have never bought anything but whatever the latest Michelin release is.
