Suspension upgrade

Folks,

I am a new owner of 99 SLK230. The only thing I can say about it is "Fantastic". Took her for a ride to the mountain every day. Not used to the soft suspension. Considering the car itself is low enough for me(I have to be very careful entering basement parking lot), friend of mine suggested me only replace the shocks, keep the stock springs. Have any of you tried this way before? I am thinking about Bilstein, thanks in adv.

Don't just go with Bilstein but Bilstein "sport" shock !!!
