Question on the SLK 350 Windshield
Hello
My insurance does not cover windshield, and my agent said for $175.00 (Canadian) extra per year I can add windshield insurance.
Does anyone know how much the windshield cost?
Does the SLK 350 windshield have rain sensors embedded in it?
Have you ever had to replace your windshield due to cracks or rock chips?
Would you recommend getting windshield insurance?
Thanks in advance

I've never heard of windshield insurance before. Do you have a deductible in your insurance policy? $175 a year seems high. I'm curious how much the windshield on your car costs. Best of luck.

I know, I know, this is crazy my deductible is $1,000.00 and the car is fully insured on everything under the sun, but my agent said adding glass/windshield to the current coverage is very expensive, and glass/windshield can be some special add-on for $175.00 / year
All I know, is I was asked if I wanted to include windshield or not.......
My question is: 'Has anyone had to replace the windshield in their SLK due to cracks, rock chips' if so, did they go thru insurance and find having this coverage useful.

I may have this wrong but normally any damage done to your vehicle you pay the first $1000 in damage if your deductible is $1000. So getting your windshield insured isn't worth it. I'm not trying to give wrong advice, just trying to help out. Please correct me if anyone reads this and knows different.

On my Connecticut policy with AMICA, I have "full glass replacement coverage" at no additional cost. I have had the coverage for my years and during the 1990's when I had a W140 sedan I needed to use it just about every year for a cracked windshield. A pebble hitting the windshield would crack the glass.
Nice car, terrible glass!

wind screen insure
This item is only for the wind screen where if cracked insure will replace it without affecting your normal car insurance and would not affect your no claim bonus. Just check with your insure company.

It varies from different insurance company but most American insurance companies included windshield (windscreen) insurance, you just have to pay the deductible.

Looking for a new toy.
Does Alberta have the gov't sponsored "no fault" insurance? I know in some provinces that's the case and coverage/deductibles are a bit screwy. In Nlfd. glass coverage is a separate item with it's own deductible (50 bucks here) and glass claims (chips/cracks - NOT accident damage, that's covered by your regular coverage) don't count against your insurance record.

I'm pretty sure the SLK windscreen would be upwards of $500, not counting the work involved to fit it. Why not call your dealer to ask how much they would charge for installing a brand new windshield?
Based on that, you could make up a decision.
I find that the SLK windshield is a bit more robust then in some other cars (thicker). I've got a few rock chips in it, but nothing that would warrant replacing the screen. Another friend with a Z4 had to replace his due to a significant chip appearing right smack bang in the middle (his screen seemed flimsier/thinner). Also, don't forget how much you might be driving each year, and for how long you want to keep your car. If you only drive 5-10k a year and want to keep the car for 2 years max, then chances of you getting a problem worth replacing the screen for, is comfortably low.
