Please advise on dealer's offer...

Hello all,

In 2012 I bought a red CPO 2009 SLK300 with 5K on it. It has nagivation heated seats and HK speakers. Last week I bought to the dealer because sometimes the AC is slow to come on. I was advised the thermostat and compressor need to be replaced that will cost me 6K ! I wanted to trade in for a new car and the dealer lowballed me at 7500.00 as the trade in value. The car has 45K miles, very well kept and is in excellent condition. I am asking you to tell me what a fair trade in will be. I am thinking of asking 20K as the trade in value. I look forward to your guidance. Dai

I have no idea how much is the trade in for the SLK300. You should try to search for other dealer options to trade in and maybe check their price too. In that case, you may find its value. Searching online could be a great option. There are now online sites that offers and calculates automatically the trade in value range, only you need to enter your car details. Also, you may contact direct dealer such as DSR Leasing, etc. in order to discuss the trade-in details.

Take the car to an independent shop for a second opinion concerning the AC and if you have a carmax in the area, see what they will offer you on the car.

09 SLK 300
I just bought a mint 09 SLK300 with 34k miles and it was less than what you are looking to get on trade from the 'preowned' lot of a multibrand dealership (one being mercedes). It has several AMG packages (bumper / body kit / wheels / sport suspension and manual mode/paddle shifter automatic). Average dealer retail for the base model was 16-21k if I remember correctly. I would guess trade-in should be around 10k and up depending on options.

The problem with your car is age - most dealers will only keep a car that is maybe 3 years old. Everything else goes to auction. The dealer I purchased mine at set up a separate lot for cars that were too nice for auction, but not within the normal criteria to sell as certified, etc.
