Just bought a 2014 SLK250. The IR FOB needs to be within 6 inches or so for it to work about 80% of the time. If it is say a few feet away, it works about 1% of the time or works half way then stops. The manual says you need to be within 6 feet.


I have brought it into the dealer twice now. This last time they said it functions properly because they tried two others on their lot and they also did not work right so mine was OK.


Has anyone else experienced trouble with the remote top operation?

It functions as poorly as you described, I don't remember it working any better since a w210

Remote top operation has a very limited distance - think 3 feet. Sounds like you're just trying to do it from too far away, and that the top itself is working fine? Remote top to me is more of a gimmick, I usually put it down or up when in the car.
