Poll: Do you drive with ESP On or Off??

I used to drive with it on, but after having it kick in way to often when turning left across traffic i now drive with it off all the time. The esp is SO sensitive that it kicks in as you are punching to clear traffic .

What about you all???

hmm... personally, I prefer it off but after skidding side ways couple of times when do hard corners in wet. I got a lil freaked out and now I had them on most of the time, but still occasionally turn it off when I the road is dry.

Wonder if it's different with an 06? I hear all the time "I clicked off ESP and got ready to race". Soon as you spin those tires, ESP on or not, it's engaging and you will see the triangle of death. ESP works whether you have it on or not when you spin the tires.

Man, it's coming on when punching it to clear traffic?? That new SLK is such a friggin monster.

Is it better with ESP off? Not supposed to be.

Well, ESP is better because it helps you keep a smoother line, also inhibits you from loosing speed going sideways. In fact although it may seem like you're going slower around a corner w/ ESP on, if you time it you will see that you are actually faster.

All in all, ESP is quicker, but I know it gets quite annoying. In my C230SS 6Speed I still whip out the tail when i punch it around a corner, and not just a little.. all the way.. but i do it because i love drifting. I have 265's in the rear and 160 hp less then the SLK 55, but still that tail wants to rip loose

I usually have ESP on, but when i want to have that little extra fun i'll either engage Dyno mode, or just turn off ESP.

Here's a suggestion for those who dont want ESP activating alltogether.

DYNO mode. Dyno mode will disable everything. (be carefull if you dont have experience drifting) Search the forums on how to activate it on your model.

Have fun

Although the braking piece does work when you have it off, the engine cut-out does not. I agree the braking piece is beneficial, but the engine cutout can be the dangerous part in traffic...

On-track: "Off", On-street: "On"

In my experience: No need for it disabled in Dyno Mode on the track and certainly not on the street. The "Off" mode is perfect for controlled power-on acceleration drifts out of the turns and will intervene only to save one from embarrassment if one tries to prove Newton wrong.

If one finds the ESP is intervening in the "Off" mode, one needs to get stickier tires, slow down and be smoother. "Slow in; Fast out."

Right Slk55er, but If you want full freedom then Dyno mode would be key. Honestly when i'm on the track i'm in Dyno mode! i feel i have more feel of what the car is doing w/ ESP and everything else off.

But that's just me.

It would be nice if the damn yellow triangle of death poking you in the face wasn't there. There needs to be a light on the button when it's deactivated.
