Bonnet Shocks fitment

Hi Guys, I replaced my bonnet shocks today and rule of thumb is to replace them like the way they were before but mine were the other way around in the first place (one thick side up and other side thin side up) so I would like to know does the thicker side fit to the fenders side and the thinner to the bonnet or visa versa. I have installed them with the thicker at the fender side reason being less levered weight on the shocks with the already long, heavy bonnet. Just want to make sure I did it right or is there a reason it must be fitted the other way around? Must say cant beleive the difference, feels like the bonnet is going to pop off the car now where before the old broom stick had to do the job
