OH MY GOD...

Vader13 08-28-2004 04:29 PM

Laguna Niguel?

Buellwinkle 08-28-2004 04:32 PM

Yes, MB of Laguna Niguel. Get your orders in quick though, supplies are limited, specially at the introductory price of only $450K, cheaper than the Enzo.

Vader13 08-28-2004 05:47 PM

I like the 360 Challenge car.

Cool. The SLR forum here has a bunch of other pics including the doors opened and the interior.

You get your car washed at your dealer? How much do they charge and do they wash, polish, and wax, the whole shebang?

Buellwinkle 08-28-2004 06:11 PM

Charge? All O.C. dealers provide free car washes. MB of Laguna Niguel's is full service, vacuum, clean windows, shiny stuff on tires. They don't even allow tipping.

Ha! Freakin' SoCal. Not only do you guys get 2 grand under invoice but also free car detailing!

Hmm, maybe they offer that here too (NorCal), I should ask.

mick1 08-28-2004 06:44 PM

If that's the case, then I'm first in line for the OEM rims!

BklynBenz 08-29-2004 12:58 AM

like i said it one of the other numerous posts with slr pics from the dealer, it seems like they are at all the dealers now.

I'm sorry but I just can't get past the Jimmy Durante "Schnozzola" on the SLR and the new SLK for that matter. If I understand correctly the Proboscis Monkey look is going to be placed on the updated SL as well. Obviously, I'm in the minority here because everyone else seems to like the look.

i think a lot of people like it because it's remeniscient of the 1950's MB gullwing, which is a classic car. plus, i dunno, i think it makes the car look more aggressive. it's all personal preference though.

i think it sure as hell is damn better looking than the new bmws, specifically the 6 series.

Actually, the '54 gullwing doesn't have a nose like that. It is supposed to be evocative of the noses on Formula 1 racing cars. F1 designer McLaren worked together with MB to develop the Vision SLR.

The SLK350 is "borrowing" the nose design from the SLR as well.

Be assured, you're far from the only one. The SLR is absolutely hideous. To me, it looks like a horribly distorted cartoon version of the Batmobile. And does anybody else notice another resemblence: to that of the rather phallic machine driven by SNL's "Ambiguously Gay Duo?"

Anybody who thinks it's that much better looking than the cleaner, simpler 6 series (at less than 1/4th the cost, I might add) is obviously suffering from a bad case of MBZ homerism.

When you consider the target audience, Benz has always been successful with the classy conservatism that their designs usually feature. How could you even consider that monstrosity of a GT car when the likes of the F430 or the Carrera GT are soon to be available?

The new SLR hardly looks like the exotic car it should be, but even in its current form it looks WAY better than the penis-shaped 6 series (much like the Z4).

But the SLR's little brother, the SLK350, is much less expensive than the 645i convertible plus it has a retractable hard-top.

So the 6 looks like a penis and the SLR doesn't?

Regardless of how one sees the overall shape of the car, there is obviously a penis on the SLR's hood.

They're both ugly cars, period.

Maybe, but in the "looks like the Ambiguously Gay Duo car" category, the Z4 wins hands-down, no doubt about it.

Google seems to disagree. Go to Google Images and search for "ambiguously gay duo car" and look at the one and only picture that comes up. :)

I agree about the the styling direction of BMW. I owned a BMW ( 1995 318ti Club Sport) before I made the switch to Mercedes. After the birth of my daughter, I didn't really feel safe with her riding in the back as there was no real crumble zone. I was ready to continue on with BMW, but I really didn't care for the new styling. I started to research safe sporty four-door sedans. When I learned (from this forum) about the updated 2005 C-Class my decision was done. I'm extremely happy with my decision.
