Bang and Olufsen retrofit

How much would it cost and would it be possible to retrofit the bang and olufsen sound system in the SLS?

From what I understand, they would have to run new wiring to all of the speakers. I know the cutouts in the dash for the B&O speakers are different so you would have to replace that portion of the dash. I believe the enclosures are unique, and as are the speaker covers. I would be willing to bet buying the parts after the fact will be more than the cost of the option. VERY rough guess (and probably very optimistic) for parts and labor would be at least twice the original option price so ~$13k, but it might be more depending on how much of the interior would have to be replaced/upgraded and how hard it is to access the wiring, etc.

expect it to be $10k or more easily. The B&O option on the SLS from what I remember was around $4500. But if you are going to install you are going to have to consider labor charges and probably some wire replacements.

It's quite expensive, then again I didn't expect it to cost the same as the factory option.

Is the sound really worth it compared to the harmon kardon system?

the sound is pretty impressive on the B&O system. But it is not worth it to change your current system for more than $10000

The door panelling and rear parcel shelf have to change too. And getting the wiring loom too is very hard. If you are going to do it, fit reversing camera at the same time whilst you have the wiirng ducts accessible !

The standard system is 6-speakers and 100watts

B&O is 11-speakers and 1000watts.

Well then, it's a good thing the engine makes a fantastic noise, because 100watts sounds quite anemic to me for a 200k car

100 watts is nothing. Thats what I have in my bedroom coming from my 2 Sony speakers. If you can/want to upgrade, I would. 1000 watts will blow your mind. And B&O have EXCELLENT sound quality. Might take a while to get used to, if your used to using slightly cheaper sounds systems, which normally have more bass frequencies. B&O Is for Audiophiles, crisp sound. Might sound flat to begin with.
Its like getting some Dr Dre beats headphones then getting some B&O or Bose headphones, they sound more flat, and clear, as the bass frequencies have been turned down.

I know 100 Watts is mext to nothing, I currently have 825 watts from the BMW individual High end audio system in my M3.

It does cost around 10k to retrofit and I think it cannot be calibrated in canada, only in the states from what I hear but I'm not sure about that claim.

Finally, I will wait and probably do a custom setup, maybe a mix of McIntosh and JBL.

If you guys have suggestions of setups that would sound as good as the engines, post them.

Let’s clear up some misinformation here:
watts is meaningless without knowing the efficiency, or sensitivity of the speakers.
My $200k audio media room has a 3 way horn system that can easily reach 120 dB of sound volume - and it’s powered by a grand total of 8 watts. 8.

It could be that the standard 100 watt system has more sensitive drivers than the B&O. Reports from owners with the B&O have largely agreed that the sound quality is not great and it’s not worth any extra cost.

Personally I think the drivers look cool, but I doubt there’s much sound quality improvement - most owners agree.
