SLS and radar detector....

Does anyone know how to hardwire a V1 into the SLS? Anyone tried? Does anyone know where a switched 12v wire is located? My car comes in next month and trying to get ready. Have hardwired M3, E63, 911, Q7 so I know how to do it once I find the right switched wire...... Thanks

The only switched 12v is the cigarette lighter in the glove box. It is pretty easy to access the wires in the car. If you remove the plastic under the glove box (3 screws) you will see the wires for the lighter. You can tap directly into the wires. It took me about 30 minutes for my sls.

Can you guys let me know how this is done and if it's "invisible" vs one of these radar detectors that have wires all over the place. Also just got an SLS and want radar. On my ML63, just had an alarm shop do it...it was pricey but a very clean install.

you mount the radar by the rear view mirror and run the wire under the headliner. Continue running the wire down the passanger A pillar headliner and on the side of the glovebox. Undo the plastic piece under the glovebox and tap into the cigarette lighter wires from underneath. Will be completly invisible. My only recommendation is make sure the suction cup on the window is secure. I took off fast and the radar went flying. . I ended up using a little epoxy to secure the suction cup to the window to avoid that mishap!!!

Thanks for the info mkraft3003. Which wire is the cigarette one? any pics? most cars have a tandem of wires running and they are demarcated by stripes, colors, clips or something.... Obviously don't have the car yet, but thanks in advance. Sounds similar to the wiring of the E63, but I had to run it under the driver side and tap in behind the center console. THAT was a pain.
For anyone that is also reading this, if you are even partially good w/ DIY stuff, don't pay someone to do this. You can get a clean install in 30-45mins usually which will last the life of the vehicle.....

Might just be me, but I can't see putting a suction cup install on my SLS. The custom installer that wired the wife's ML63 did it so it works through the dash. You'd never even know it was there

I hear ya but the suction cup next to the rear view mirror is not very easily visible from outside the car. Inside it is basically out of your main line of sight but enough in the peripheral vision that you can see it (and hear it) w/out too much distraction. I usually save that money for some other mods or something

Hey guys,

Need some help w/ the hardwire. Have the plastic cover off and there is a cluster of 4 wires that are running to the right where the glove compartment 12v is located. There are 2 thin wires and 2 thick wires. thin wires are (1)yellow and (2) brown and white. thick wires are (1) brown and (2) red. Which do I use? Have been fighting w/ the darn thing and can't seem to tap the brown wire as is too thick. tapped the smaller 2 but nada. Please let me know.... Will try to search for some schematics or something so I can finish up. thanks in advance

I took a look and wonderer if my grandson with his little hands could do this for me. The wires are all bundled tight in a confined area. I could not do it without messing something else up.

Any other ideas?

I have a (valentine) V1 and like the visibility that is afforded when using the suction cups. You definitely want to be able to see the red arrows so you know which the signal is from. This is very helpful sometimes. I put the unit HIGH in the glass as I think that gives the best view of the road.

(I don't use it that much, so I just use the cigarette lighter and let the cord dangle when needed)

I bought a Solo 3 from Escort. I hoped it would work better. In four months, I have not received one legit warning. Though x-band and k-band are shut off, gas stations and supermarkets blow right through the filter and give me a full scale KA warning.

I'd really like to get my 9500ix hard wired but can't find a convenient wire. I wonder if there is switched power that I can get to.
