Very informative thread Kayvan. I consider myself a newbie collector along similar tastes as you. I currently have a CGT and 16M which are my keepers. I wasn't studying the cars 2-3 years ago, but rather buy these cars out of true enthusiasm. I guess I got lucky.
The SLS has caught my eye. I do believe the Gullwing iconic status and limited production of this car give it potential for appreciation (already has - seems it has gone up about $30k in the last year or so).
I love white on red and will go for low miles. I hate to be influenced by mileage in terms of collectibility because I am a driver. But fact is, especially in the Ferrari world, miles do matter - unless you are holding for the long haul like a McLaren F1.
As this will be my first MB exotic (do have a G63), what are the wanted options on these cars?
Also, I am not a "warranty" guy - don't have any on my CGT or 16M. But are there any major issues to look for on the SLS?

As for options, I would assume the most sought after are the stereo, CF interior and CC brakes. That was what I wanted when shopping
Good luck with the hunt, its a fantastic car and will compliment your current collection well

You are off to a great start as a collector with the CGT and Ferrari 16M. Both of those cars are incredible!! As for the SLS there have been only a few issues I know of and they are not widespread. The trans being one of them, I have heard of a couple being replaced under warranty. Other than that, the car is bulletproof.

Color choices are important for a collector as well. To me, it had to be Silver over Red...as is the most popular combo on the original Gullwing. That said, I think white over red will also do very, very well in the long run.

I asked him what is his lowest price to sell last Wed; he responds "MB dealer offered me $190K"
I told him "take the $190K; 'your first money is your best money' [old yidish saying]
He might need another saying soon: 'your first loss is your best loss'

It's funny. Every time I search the market, I think about this thread ... "Hmm, silver/black with no options...wonder if it's out there." In the past 8 months, I haven't seen ANY with zero options. Just the other day, I thought I found one but then I saw that it had a Dinamica steering wheel. Another time it was forged wheels...or painted calipers. Always something.

Recently purchased this car: White/Tan, No CC Brakes, No Carbon Trim, No B&O, Red Calipers, Suspension Package, 5 dual spoke wheels, just over 5K+ miles when picked up.
$$ under MSRP. Wanted to get in prior to the anticipated run up. Was lucky to do the same with FGT at under MSRP.
Drove it home from Scottsdale to WA State and the Olympic Peninsula.
1763 miles of highway and lots of back roads. Ton of fun.

Love the white. Soo easy to care for over my black cars.
Thanks for posting here. We have had conversations on F-Chat re 355 stuff.

The only way to confirm unicorn status would be to see if rainbows shoot out of the exhaust pipes but the seller won't allow test drives.

Good find. I think there was a guy on here once looking to buy one with no options and silver and black?
I would say it's an above average Craigslist ad
PS who the heck would shop for an SLS on Craigslist anyways. He needs to step up to at least cars.com LOL

Might be fake ad. Why would you post car in Napa in LA, but not in bay area?
VIN search shows up as this car. http://www.bentleygoldcoast.com/2011...amg-c-3890.htm
I don't see any options, other than the rim style if you consider them an option.

Indeed, no upgraded options at all. The wheels may have been an option but they were a $0 cost option...only the 10 spoke forged were an uplift charge in 2011.

Yeah, only option it could have that's not obvious in the pictures is the AMG performance suspension. Probably have to run the VIN through MBZ to find that one out, although it's supposed to be 0.7" lower if you can distinguish that in a picture.
