Thinking of buying a SLS BS

So I'm in the market for a new car and have been considering either a 458 Spider or 675LT coupe to keep along side my 2011 SLS. Well, a SLS BS just popped up locally for sale and even though it is way past my budget, if I traded in my SLS I could make it work.

I have great trepidation paying nearly $500k for a car that could be in a price bubble. I also fear buying a car that I would not feel comfortable putting miles on. If I got the 458, I could rack up 15k miles and not look back. What do you guys think, what would you do?

$500k is a lot of money for a car you can't put miles on. Especially if you already have an SLS. That said, it would be a cool car to own.

I love the 458 and I think they should hold their value even with some miles added. But the spider, like the SLS roadster, might not fair as well. Also the maintenance cost on that car is up there.

The 675LT is a great car. Out of the group, I think that's the one to get. BUT, I would wait a little bit because the 720s is coming out and it's going to be a huge step up from the 675. So I think the 675 will take a significant hit in price and more should come on the market with people upgrading.

Go and buy Salomondrin's 675LT; he just put it up for sale to fund his 720S that he has been utterly blown away by. His LT is one of the very few with a roof scoop.

I like the 458 Spider option because it has the now discontinued naturally aspirated V8 engine and that may increase its value over time. That said, I passed on a air-cooled 993 turbo in 2012 to buy a 997 version, so obviously I cannot predict the future value of cars very well.

I too had the same dilemma, I couldn't spend that kind of money and worry every time I decided to take it out that I could be affecting it's value. Not something I could deal with. I decided to try and locate another car that would hold its value and possibly increase in value over the years while actually enjoying it. I found a 2015 458 Italia and man what a car. It's completely a different animal compared to the SLS. So so happy with it. The Maclaren will tank like a brick in a pool of water. Have fun!

Beautiful new addition in the proper F-car colors that also happens to be a super car benchmark. Enjoy!

I completely agree with most of the comments. I would not get an SLS BS right now - I think they are artificially inflated. McLarens drop like crazy - but they are fantastic cars. I'm partial to the 458, I absolutely love mine and drive the hell out of it. Much easier day-to-day than the SLS.

Thanks for the responses guys

I was really considering Salomondrin's 675lt because I thought with the roof scoop it might be immune to the severe depreciation, but they are sticking hard to their $550k list price at the moment Though they do offer 144 month financing, lol. I love the 675LT but I do think it will deprecate like crazy once the 720s is on the street. Therefore, its probably off the table.

The 720S looks incredible and from what I've heard its a true hypercar. However, like all other Maclarens it can be had at a huge discount on the secondary market in 12 months. I'll wait until next year to consider that one.

I do share the same concern for the SLS BS that it might be artificially high for the moment and can be had for a significant sum less in time. I just love the one that is local to me because its the same color as my C63BS (iridium silver)

Maybe the 458 is the best bet for the moment until the bubble bursts and then I can entertain something more unique.

Thanks again and more suggestion/observations welcome

McLaren Newport has a 675LT for $349,000. Ask for Nick the GM let him know Newport with the SLS sent ya. He will give you the good guy discount.

You can buy good BS all day for $420,000

If you are looking for an investment that will appreciate then the SLS BS is the way to go. Only 130 imported to the US of which less than 100 remain after many were re-exported to the wealthy Arabian Gulf countries. So it is not in a bubble and you can never find more than 4 or 5 of them for sale in the country. If you are looking for something to drive but will certainly depreciate whether you drive it or not then go for the 458. 720S will hold it's value but will not depreciate much if you don't drive it much. All cool cars!

That's the cool part about having an SLS there is no "next". Every 5 min there is a new 911 this or that same with McLaren. SLS was simple Coupe Roadster or Black Series. There were some small SLS variations form year to year but none that were a big deal.

I agree the SLS BS will be a great investment. I just think at the moment they are priced a little high and will correct slightly in the next down turn, which should be shortly. So far, the ones on the market (I know of 7, not all online) have been there a while and sellers are not budging much. The SLS BS I'm looking at is local and they will not move much from the $500k asking. I think they are expecting too much. If they drop to $450 and under I'm all in.

Exactly why I will always have one in my garage whether it be a standard one or BS. I rarely see another one at a car show etc.

Appreciation/Depreciation

They can ask whatever they want for the SLS BS but I know of a few really nice ones, with low miles, that have traded hands for $375-$425k recently. All the cars mentioned above have either had much depreciation or will see much depreciation over the next couple of years. As much as I love the 458, they too have seen much depreciation! The SLS is the only car in the above thread that has reversed the depreciation trend.
If depreciation is a big concern for you, I'd either stick with the SLS or a Ferrari 599.

FWIW, I like the 599 too. Detuned Enzo V12, stunning appearance that has held up well. Probably at the low end of its depreciation curve. Did I mention the V12?

I have been looking for an SLS Black as well, and its really difficult to know where things are actually trading, as I can only find 3 listed for sale on the typical sites, all asking around the same ($470-480) price. I have a feeling the actual market is def lower, as other post mentioned

I have been negotiating with BMW/Audi of Fresno on their white one and have gotten them down to $445k. I decided to pass as I put down a deposit on a 458 Speciale. I'm picking up the car on Wednesday.

If you want the contact info for the guy I've been working with on the SLS BS in Fresno PM me.

Can't go wrong with either one but sorta think that the BS will be the better play in the long run. Congrats on the Speciale.
