First (diesel) generation versus second (gasoline) version
Hi there.
Don't know much about the differences between the first and second generation Smarts sold in Canada.
I'd much prefer the diesel, but IIRC in Canada you can't buy the newer generation in a diesel format.
If that's true, are there features in the newer generation that measurably improve on the first generation, such that I could "swallow" a gas-powered Smart, and forego the diesel burner?

Parts and warranty service for the 451 (new) smart seem to be more readily available the for the 450 (original) model. Fuel economy in the gas 451 is 33 - 41 mpg.
There you have it!

Service and parts for the diesel are readily available in Canada and will be indefinitely.
I have two of them and love them both. One has 180,000+ km and the other one is being used more sparingly.
