The Difference in Paint Protection Options

This may be the wrong forum in which to post this thread, so please let me know if there is a more appropriate place for this discussion. With over 10 years in the protective film industry (tint and currently representing 3M paint protection film), I've noticed a trend (and perhaps some misinformation) on the differences in paint protection, ceramic coatings and paint & fab protection. There are some really cool products on the market these days, but in general terms this is what I understand to be the difference in surface protection products:

1. Paint Protection Film: Provides physical barrier between paint and external factors; protecting from damage to paint (chips & scratches) caused by impact - rock chips, scratches from branches/keys/baggage, etc.
2. Ceramic Coatings: Minimizes need for washing/waxing; maintains luster and shine of paint and protects from 'aesthetic' damage to paint - BUT NOT IMPACT.
3. Paint & Fab Coverage (typically offered at dealerships) - Protects from aesthetic damage to exterior paint (swirls, staining, etc) - BUT NOT IMPACT.

Many people are installing paint protection film, and then adding a ceramic coating to the top to maximize the benefits of both products.

I am certain there is additional information on all products, and I'm always open to learning, but if you are adding a coating to your vehicle to truly protect its paint it is my understanding that Paint Protection film is the only option that provides impact protection. In addition, 3M PPF is the only film that offers a 5-Year/$3500 coverage policy should paint damage occur under the protected areas of the vehicle. There are terms and conditions for this coverage, but that option is there.
