Duplicate Advert posts in every section

I know I am the new guy but I have been on many auto forums and actually admin on one as well.
I know advertising keeps the lights on but...

Seems all the "Allowed" advertisers start the same thread in every vehicle specific forum so there could be like 10 or 15 of the same posts.
Why that bugs me is I like to use the NEW POSTS features as I know a lot of things in my car are in other cars (radio, Distronic etc) and I like to see if others are having issues or found features I did not know about etc.
But when you have 5-8 different advertisers starting or posting in every thread they started for the week you get like a 100 posts of adverts everyday. and they all say the same thing.

Why not have a specific section they posts these threads in so they have a single thread about the latest wheels or black friday deal or what not as most pertain to all the cars.
They can still jump in to specific sections if they find a post someone started that they can contribute to.

This is not my site but just a suggestion to make it easier to find interesting threads to read and contribute to.

Hi,

Thank you for the feedback.

The forum was founded in 2001 with no restrictions on where a vendor may place an ad, however, there are limits on the number of active threads, bumps and placement of ads in threads. Our vendors are generally very responsive when told of excessive ads or bumps as viewed by potential customers. Please report the posts and we will remind them of the guidelines.

I bet they stick to limits but when you have 5-10 of them doing it it adds up...big number of duplicate posts.
Heck I counted 15 identical posts from one company in the newer vehicle sections.

What are limits?
I would report but seems nothing good comes from that as someone gets mad..

I still think it best to give each vendor their own section for them to start posts... heck with links to their storefront. so when the latest and greats new wheel comes out they can start the thread in their section...
people interested will find it and see it and react as they see fit.

Then when they quict being a vendor easy for you to remove their posts since they stop paying.
As it is now they pay one year and they can put down a boatload of posts that you have to clean up when they quit.

What you have now is a war of the wheel vendors trying to be the last one to posts so his thread is on top and trying to get more eyes.
Do not let them start posts in the invidual vehicle sections - they can reply all day long to posts they have knowledge on but should not spam in them.

This site is big enough with traffic and posting you can change the rules and stil lkeep the lights.
Also you have a greater world wide audience then when you started

Or maybe add a software mod for members to BLOCK threads started by certain members and hide them.

Rules are meant to be changed as they become obsolete due to growth of membership and forum sections.

Again IMO and I realize this site is owned by a forum "conglomerate" who owns a bunch of car forus and others...

Good luck!

I agree, it's a real pain in the ass.

I thought I was the only one....

PAin is when you clcik NEw posts... and 75 of them are these ad posts...

I will report them nno problem.... I tried ignore that does not work... as all it does is blank out their post inside the thread but you still see the threads they start in each forum index.

Please grab a screen shot when you see that again, it helps us work with the vendors to understand why it is infuriating to some members. We do ask vendors to limit their bumps and new threads, if they continue we delete the ads.

speedlimit 06-24-2019 02:03 PM

No, that is not necessary. We are going to send a PM to all the vendors asking them to be mindful of their bumps and ad placements. Thank you.

I have also noticed how often the "New Posts" section gets polluted with these ad posts.
It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't bump up all their posts within minutes of each other!

ygmn 07-04-2019 07:00 AM

NO difference yet.

Thank you, I just issued a warning and will start deleting the excessive bumps if it continues.

Some vendors are not aware of the New Post search results and I have not met one MBworld vendor who when told of the situation quickly responds to correct it.

TO quote Keith Jackson.

WHOoooaaaa NELLYYYYyyyyy

must be close to XMAS as dayum all the advert posts must fill up the bandwith of this site as they hammer down legit posts in each section.

Guess what everyone is having black friday sales NOW... just post it on billboard at top and rotate thru your sponsors.. mush easier for the users and might visit these guys...

Feel like I am on an island sometimes.... the cranky old man who hates spam.
