Lots of brake dust

Hi,
I've had my 2001 e55 for a month now and I've noticed that this thing puts off more brake dust than any other car I've had. I'm not braking harder in this car either. Is this typical for these cars? Is there anything I can do to cut down on it?? I'm cleaning my rims almost every day!!!
thanks,
etip

etip,I'm sure you're not alone. We model year 2003+ owners still are experiencing brake dust. I guess upgrading to composite brakes or some other sort will resolve this, but until then...

Yea...it's normal. You might want to try applying some sealant to your wheels (Klasse, Zaino, Poorboys Wheel Sealant, Wheel Wax, etc)...and use a California dash duster to dust your wheels everyday. After sealing them, the brake dust comes off much easier.

Anytime! Now if we can just get a set of low-dust pads for this 8pot setup.

Ceramics still dust...I had ceramics on my Porsche 996TT and it was noisy as heck, still dusty (but better)...PCNA bought the car back after 3 sets of cracked pads and cracking holes in the rotors.

I just went down to Pepboys and got me a California duster. Works like a charm for a low priced item!

Works okay (smaller dash duster is good for getting between spokes), but I keep a clean microfiber cloth handy - more effort, but the results are better.

On the California Duster - if you have a new one, let it air out a day or two to get rid of any excess chemical treatment. Helps prevent residue that contributes to re-soiling. Just shake it out after use - its cleaning ability actually improves with age.
