Supercharger
Anybody done one? I am rather curious... 18K plus install, not a trivial investment, but 150 extra horses, if that is real, wow!
Is it a reasonable do it yourself task? What is install going to cost? Who are the vendors I should look at???
Thanks to all,
Claudio

I haven't done one but i've actually rode one an E55k with more than 550+hp and tell you that it's absolutely amazing! The experience when you mash the throttle is just mind blowing. This is something you may have to actually ride in it to experience the power of the kleemann s/c. As for installation the cost is about $1,800.00. You can click here for authorized vendors.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping for someone with direct experience. Naturally, I am concerned about reliability, warranty, and the like, and would love to speak to someone who has actually gone through it. Can you put me in touch with the owner of the beast you got to ride in?
Thanks,
Claudio

superchargers are amazing things
There is no lag like turbos and the thrust is very strong. I cant wait for my next one to arrive in Apr '03. I ordered the car about four months ago so now its just the waiting game. This time I got it fairly well loaded with Pano roof and nav system (since they assured me it would be a DVD based system). If not, it gets removed.

The Kleemann supercharger is on my 'wishlist'. However, with a 2002 E55 worth about $60k and $18k for the charger I can order/buy the W211 E55k and have a factory warranty. Tough decision.

Yeah, tough problem. If the Kleemann actually results in 550 horses, that might be justification, not to mention 1-2 months vs. 1-2 years waiting. I agree that chucking the warranty on this pricey toy is a serious consideration.

Considering the economics and warranty issues involved with a "DIY" W210 "K" vs the real deal, I'd be more inclined to purchase the factory offering. I can't help but speculate that a minor exchange of parts in the W211 E55 will yield the same performance and power figures as a Kleemanized W210 E55. Like I've mentioned in past posts, I feel we're only a pulley change away from 550 HP. ( plus ECU adjustments, of course...)

I too was/am seriously considering the Kleeman system... but for not much more than the $20k the system costs, I probably could trade in my 2002 E55 and get the new W211, in a year or so of course.
It seems likely the W211 will have better brakes, a better navigation system, and possibly active suspension. It certainly will have factory warranty and service. I'm not as excited about the looks. I like the somewhat boxy, muscular look of the current car. The new one looks too much like the same slippery design that every Accord, Taurus, Camry, etc has adopted in the name of lower wind resistance.
It's a bummer the Kleeman system isn't more like $10k. Then it would be far easier to justify.
Does Kleeman ever have a sale?

As I have posted before with great debate - I speculate that the price can not remain that high with the advent of every new AMG car coming with a supercharger - the 2004 E55, 2003 SL55, 2003 S55, 2003 CL55 and who knows what else (ML's, G's etc.). BMW tuner superchargers cost half that price.
Soon the AMG OEM superchargers will be available as Kits and installation from every Mercedes Performance shop and perhaps dealers as well.
Kleemann will no longer have exclusive hold on the Mercedes Kompressor aftermarket as before.

I hope you are right, E55 KEV. If a reputable company offers a MB supercharger kit, or if I could get the Kleeman system, for $10k then I'm a buyer. I'd much rather spend that now than wait a year or two, and trade in my almost brand new E55. I really love the current car, I'd just like a little more performance, and I know that AMG engine is capable of it.
I'll bet you are right about the pricing... the new supercharged AMG engines can't be that different from the current model, a conversion kit must be a possibility. I'd be delighted with a 75-100 hp boost.
Anybody know more?

On the subjects of an MB warranty, Fletcher jones warrants any mods done to a mercedes from BRABUS NA in newport beach. If KLEEMANN could prove their work to be just as reputable as BRABUS, then maybe the local dealer would not "void" the warranty on a new MB. I think KLEEMANN would sell quite a bit more engine SC's if the buyer was assured that it would not affect the manufacture's warranty.

The Birds guys look interesting, though not geographically convenient to us Yanks...
Seems like the price is roughly the same as the Kleeman.
Thanks to all who are contributing to the discussion,
Claudio
