Front end knock

Ok, I've had this knock in the suspension coming from the front passenger wheel that I cannot figure out. So far I've changed the control arm, lower ball joint, sway bar link and sway bar bushings, tightened the wheel bearing, did rotors and pads and it's still there. Under inspection from to indy's they told me that none of these parts needed replacement as the "appeared" to be ok.

Anyway the noise is still there which the only thing that I think left is the shock/spring? There is one thing, after the car has been on the lift or jacked up the noise goes away for a while until the suspension settles.

Any ideas?

Stiction from the strut? I used to have this on my Subaru. It goes away when you jack up the car, because the shock gets a chance to extend fully and relubricate itself. When you go over a bump is when you would notice it. Instead of the shock smoothly extending back out, it sticks and then will "jump" out, making a clunk noise. Is that what you're experiencing?

Yes, it happens over bumps when you are going slow, not on the highway.

I can't tell if it sticks or not because it makes the noise instantly when going over a bump. The same thing happened to my S4 and I never figured it out, although I never changed the strut.

In my car too, i replace the shocks & all ok, review first your superior shock rubers, in some cars the metal round the rubber broken & start to make noise., remove the superior 2 x 17mm & check them first

Will check that!

So it's on the top part of the shock?

it' s definitely your shock for sure. How many miles on your current shocks? are they original? Life span on our cars I'd say 40k 70k depending on how much punishment they take I had to replace my left driverside as it started to leak. ( I was lucky ) sometimes they don't sure any wear with the exception of noise over bumps I know this all so well. happen to my last 2 cars I also noticed a lot smoother ride after replacing the front 2 shocks.

How much do they go for? I wonder if I should use it like that for a while longer until I save up for a drop kit.

$81 best price on the .net / This is for HD I take it yours still running OEM springs these will fit perfect. In all honestly if your looking to lower the car a tad go with my set up on on my sig. Best set up and you won't have that harsh drive going with the Sport shocks.

my .55 cents

The knock is driving me nuts. Another thing that is occuring is that on the highway I feel a very slight kind of shake or shudder. Not sure what it is, sounds like the wheels but I didn't hit any pot holes or anything. I did however, inflate them to 40lbs. for my road trip and never deflated them. Maybe it's that for the shudder.

As for the rubber part of the shock, are those replaceable?

Don't know the mileage of the shocks because I bought the car used/ I only put about 10,000 miles on it. The car rides as it should suspension wise with the present knock.

Stiction of the shock won't dramatically effect performance or ride quality. It's mostly just noisy. The only time you can feel it is when you hit a big bump, the rebound will be jerky instead of smooth. Basically, only when you hear it will you be able to feel it.
