My 'new' 2001 E55 AMG
I purchased a used 2001 E55 AMG the other day - glad to be a part of the family. The local dealer did a little over $2,000 worth of work to it before they listed it (new front & rear brakes, rotors, & sensors, new engine mounts, oil change service, etc.), and I had it checked out by my local mechanic. It has 125,000 miles on it, is a two-owner So Cal car, and I paid $10,240 for it. I was pleased with this price.
I will probably be posting some questions soon as I need to replace a few small items (visors, radio button, door sill)

Have fun Troll.
I drove her 3 weeks ago. The car looked pretty clean and seemed well kept. The young sales kid had no idea the condition or past repairs.
Few small things are the visor, the 6 cd disk magazine missing, the right passinger doorsill, couple of the dings. The sporttronic trans would not upshift unless you hit shifter down n left. Downshift was fine. have your mechanic adjust it correctly, unless you drive in auto.
I remember this one being for sale in Temecula last year. Missed checking it out then b4 the trade in. Have fun tearing up the streets!

swim, yeah they told me they didn't have the manuals, extra key, floor mats, or cd magazine. Luckily I kept asking (3x) and all of a sudden the manuals and cd magazine appeared! The squeaky wheel... :-)
I'm only planning on using regular "Drive" but that's interesting to know about the manual shift issue....thanks. I'll bring it up to my mechanic next time I am in.

Awesome that you "found" the service records and history. Those "missing" pieces alone make your deal solid! Car drove tight and stopped quick.
I was close to offering a fair price on the car, but afraid to insult the poor kid.
Guess I am still shopping

You'll find something I'm sure Swim Wagon
The other week I saw this one listed for $11,680...then they dropped it to $10,980. I offered them 10 even for it and then we agreed on $10,240.
The top of the (multi-colored) steering wheel is worn off...the gray part where someone would drive one-handed with their left hand on top of the wheel.
Anyone have any idea how to fix the worn away gray area? Thanks.

OP Congrats! and welcome to the Fam!
If the trip tonic isn't working (upshift) then at one point someone spilled fluid on the chip that's located right behind the shifter. Most likely you will need to replace the shifter however as long as your ok without trip-tonic your good.
I had to replace min 3x due to not fitting correctly and I myself spilled redbull in mine so be careful. This is also a 1k job at the dealer and $500 part.

Tint
Guys thanks for all the responses and support.
"Hi-Power" from the message board recently sold me two items I needed; I got a good deal from him and I'd do business with him again.
SleepersRock: Yes you are right I should get some tint on mine. I used a guy here in San Diego back in 2006 for another Mercedes I own and it turned out to be a great purchase...I still love that tint job and it does not appear to have "aged" one bit to me. It was $395 then so it'll be interesting to see what the same guy will quote me now (for a somewhat bigger car).
