I've noticed my front rotors starting to get a lip on the outer edges of front rotors. Lip is getting awfuly close to touching my calipers my Indie tech strongly recomends new rotors and pads. He gave me a price of $800 for whole job including OEM parts and labor is this a fair price.

New rotors front and back , new pads , flush fluid and bleed .. all OEM ? Yes I think it is a decent price . Say $400 rotors , $150 pads and $250 labor .

the lip wont ever touch the calipers. But $800 is a pretty good deal for front pads n rotors considering rotors are $300 each list price. He probably gets the rotors for just under $200 wholesale.

FYI: These cars have a sensor that will tell you when the pads are getting down to the wear limit. If the rotors don't have a pulse to them (ie: warped), then I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. Just wait until the wear indicator comes on, then get the job done. $800 is a fair deal, not the best price, but fair. You couldn't buy the parts for much less than $600.

Mine are in the same boat. Getting thin, starting to howl a little, but still smooth and wear indicator is not on yet. I plan to DIY the job along with the rears and my parts are running about $750 for the whole job, not including fluid flush.

Im taking Desired Speeds advice and waiting for sensor light to come on or until I hear sqeeking. Would love to do it my self, dont have the tools.

We are not talking repairing here. OP just need to change brake and rotors. Your brake system is very nice and attractive but our car worth only so little. I don't think any of us would spend $1700 for brake kit.

Front rotors will cost you $250 a piece and good pads will run you another $50 or so, you are looking at spending about $250 on labor

I opted to do it myself and used the $250 to get some stainless steel brake lines and ATE super blue racing brake fluid and still had some $$$ left over.

The job is SUPER easy and you don't need any "special" tools:
socket set (19mm I believe) , allen wrench (5mm + 7mm), c clamp (to depress the caliper)

1.) remove wheel
2.) remove 2 guide pins in caliper (7mm allen wrench)
3.) remove caliper (slides off, hang with bungee cord)
4.) remove pads + pad wear sensor
5.) remove caliper mounting bracket bolts (19mm socket)
6.) remove caliper mounting bracket
7.) remove rotor alignment screw (5mm)
8.) remove rotor
9.) install is the reverse

if you don't run into any issues should take you 1-2 hours

Autohaus has the front rotors for $232 a piece.

@Trinotony. Thanks going to do the job today mostlikely, parts purchased through same guy u got them off $233 a peice for new OEM rotors. I also bought motor mounts ..pads and sensors were cheap.

That part number they show for the Centric rotor is for a rear and all this discussion has been about fronts. You can get rear rotors for cheaper from Autohaus. E55s also use directional front rotors.

I ordered some OEM front rotors from Autohaus, Goodridge stainless steel brake lines (Tirerack) and Akebono pads (through friend's shop) last night and the total for just the parts came out to a little under $700.

Pretty much the same set up I am running, it was definitely an improvement. Throw in a little ATE super blue racing brake fluid and you are good to go

Going to replace pads and rotors. Having a friend who is MB tech do the job for me on the side. He bought EBC redstuff pads. For some reason we cannot figure what rotors are the best to put on. I just use mine for pretty normal driving- any suggestions?
