The Steering Wheel
I have heard that the new E55 has a steering wheel that is much more slender than the one on the W210 version. Is that correct? If so, how much smaller is the diameter of the new wheel than the old one.
I have an elm wood/leather steering wheel on my current 2001 E55, and it seems just right to grip. My prior cars (all 5 series BMWs) had markedly scrawnier ones, and I would hate to think that Mercedes Benz was now trying to save a few dollars for the "bottom line" at the expense of providing an inferior driving experience. Steering wheels on high performance vehicles are that way for a reason.

Not only is the wheel skinny, the leather doesn't even appear real. I had my son clean and condition the leather in the car. I questioned him on why the steering wheel hadn't been done. His response wass that it was vinyl, not leather. I had to show him the car specs to get him to believe it was real leather.
Thanks to Ronald on the AMG owners club board, I have been in contact with Mattes-Carlsson to order a replacement F1-Safety Car replacement.
