Potential buy of a 2002 e55 with 140k miles
Hi all I am in the process of trying to figure out if I want to buy a high mileaged w210 e55 as I found one about 6 hours from me so hard to just casually look at it. The guy has had the car for 5 years and over that time he had replaced the shocks, idler pully, fan clutch, serpentine belt, top and bottom ball joints, lower control arm bushings, valve cover gaskets, trans conductor place, engine mounts, trans mounts, changed the diff oil and the car needs only the headliner fixed as the rear part is sagging.
I would like to hear some thoughts. How many of you have higher mileage ones? Would you consider something with this many miles? The care really looks great from the pics as he send me some high res ones and it has been cared for well.

Guy is not budging off of $7500 which is asking price as I offered $7000 with a PPI as I found a place in his area and unless anything major came out of that I would of made the 6 hour drive. Oh well. He just listed the car a few days ago. Does this seem like a fair price?

I paid my 2002 135K miles on clock for $7600 but spend other $2K for maintenance/repair... total came out $9600 and still need to change rear tires soon. I think $7500 is great deal if he really did all those repair as mentioned.

What did you spend $2K on by the way and did you know about it prior to buying from a PPI or you did not find out till after. I see you have a 2006 e55 as well. I would love to have one of those but way more $ than a w210 e55.

Can others who bought one recently chime and and if you don't mind let me know what you spent how many miles on the car what you might of had to do to it after the purchase? Looks like this one is a go for me as I am getting a PPI done here in the next day or two. On another note the guy said he replaced brakes and rotors 30K ago. How long do these tend to last miles wise? I know that front rotors are about $250 a piece as a full brake job can be costly.

Mine was about $6500 but it had some issues they were all easy to address and did not cost much to fix, I did all the work myself so the only cost was parts and time.
valve cover gaskets
breather covers
spark plugs
CPS
idler pulley
transmission connector
front stabilizer bar bushing

I just bought my first MB this past Friday. A 2001, just shy of 103k. I got it for about $7500 at a dealer. Crazy story, it was a trade which I missed at private party sale on CL. Dealer made a quick flip of $1,000 plus whatever they get out of my old trade in.
A few tiny bubbles in paint, had a check engine light on. Washer fluid level check and headlamp defective malfunctions. I flipped the gas cap gasket and made it tight, cleared with odb 2 scanner and hasn't returned. The washer fluid should be easy fix after I drain and clean the sensor. The headlamp has me baffled as all lights work.
I drove it home 3 hours without issue or worry. Again, first MB ever, cutting my teeth on this beastly AMG.
My next issue is to figure out my 'tire snafu' I have going on.
So far, favorite car I have owned, I'm in my 40's and envy of my neighbor due to this car. Enjoy!

Thanks all as this is a go for me as I am going to get it tomorrow. I talked to the shop where he had work done on it and the owner said buy the car it is in that great of shape and the owner is very diligent on all the service and such and he would buy it himself if he had room for it as it is a great car as that really was the selling point. He said the guy had a few cars and a CLS55 that he brings in now and again when he can't fix something himself. Will post pictures over the weekend and will be active on this forum.
By the way I have had a 2000 CLK430 a number of years back so not my first Mercedes.

For 06 E55 is very reliable to me so far. This car is always mad... like need to drive it hard... only getting 12MPG now... it's very different feeling to the W210.

Hi all so I am back from my trip and I did not buy the car. It was in great shape overall but the sunroof did not work which the owner said he never used so he claimed he was surprised. Hmm. This was only the 2nd E55 I have looked at and driven and the first one was horrible and this one just seemed very loose as the turning had much play and it just did not seem right. I might be wrong as I am coming off a 1999 m3 which is very tight and use to have a 2000 CLK430 and it was tight. I think I am going to have to drive a few more to determine if it is me or what?
Anyways the search continues. I was not going to pay $7400 for this with 140K miles in need of a sunroof fix, headliner fix and now suspension.

I am so glad you did not buy this car, because it allowed me to purchase it. I brought my own mechanic with me. And found a feway minor issues. But the sun roof works and drives like a dream. I have looked at 8 others in far worse shape for far more money. So I just wanted to say thank you!
