Hey folks!

First off, I apologize if this isn't the best way to introduce myself to the forum.
Second, this AMG makes wonder what different muscle cars will this big-butted, hand-crafted, German-engineered monster be able to eat!?

Every light I come to I just want hit that ESP button and let loose!

I love this car and didn't get much info on it as far as services performed to the vehicle prior to purchase but it does have a clean title.

Left control arm and rim was replaced right before i picked it up as some idiot crashed into it while it was parked and cracked the rim.

Other than that,

Build Year: L-99
Car is at 126,000

THE LIST

Front left brakes make ugly metal-ish whine after a few stops and slow right turns so, ROTORS AND PADS (Maybe brake lines and flush. Haven't checked rear at the moment but probably need work too.)

The Racing Brake branded Rotors look very nice but may not be needed as far as what I've read on these post; stock rotors and less-dusty pads seem to suffice.

Passenger-side headlamp is yellow-ish. (Luck me I found a 30$ Groupon for headlamp restoration to be done at Maaco, Just have to schedule)

Parking headlamp bulb out on driver-side

I'll be performing an oil change about 500 miles from now for safety measures. (Mobil1 seems to be the proper mix?)

I definitely want to have the tranny looked at just to be safe. I haven't had any issues with it as far as I can tell but i know that at this mileage, I should check in on it.

Both window regulators on driver-side.

Headlight sprayers seem to spray like the morning after

Windshield wiper is floppin' around like... the morning after.

Driver-side corner tail-light isn't AMG (probably the most annoying thing on this car. the clear portion is not "smoked" like the other tail-lights)

Check Engine light went off as I floored away from the previous owner and read a miss-fire on Spark-Plug #3

I used a can of Royal Purple fuel system cleaner just because I heard good responses from 95% of the people that have used it.

Check engine light turned off bout 5 days ago and hasn't popped up since but I plan to have the plugs checked.

No oil traces whatsoever around plugs or manifold. Looks really clean! (those black plastic blocks that hook-up to the s.plugs look very clean) sorry, 2nd Mercedes I've owned so I don;t know all the components, yet.

END LIST

I've been creepin on this forum for a while now (about 5 months) just to read up and know what to expect with this beast and with that, I love how involved members are on this forum.

I'm hoping to keep this car running smooth til 250k! I'd like to beef up the exhaust a bit and hopefully be able to tune the TCU with LogicLabTuning. Don't know if that will be possible or not.

If any of you guys can offer tips and knowledge on any of these things I mentioned, please reply!
(Located in the Bay Area)

Glad to meet you guys!

I plan to keep it mostly stock besides the exhaust and HOPEFULLY TCU

I think this car would look nice with a black vinyl accent on the roof but, if I start to change the look I will start there, black housed headlamps, and some nice rims. (maybe calipers )

I know a shop that will refinish the rims for 120 a piece (maybe less for all 4)
but I plan to keep those stock silver and accent the AMG logo in black

thanks again for the welcoming guys, super excited about owning this car!

I think the trick is to avoid any mods. Once you start, it is difficult to stop. At least that has been my experience.

$120 per rim seems like a good price. I just had my original set of Monoblocks refinished.

Yeah, I like the classy "Sheep in Wolf's Clothing" look that this car has. I will definitely go for an X pipe and res delete. I'll do 2nd cats if it's something I know that I can pass smog without having to fork over extra cash.

Any advice on brake work? That's first on my list. I know a few people have posted in the pass on this subject but some new feedback is always welcome and more relevant to me.

ZAYED,,
I don't think they really need an upgrade, I've seen some cross drilled and slotted rotors on ebay for around 500 a pair. Just wondering if you guys would recommend any specific things to look for or stay away from.

Sure, you can go with bolt-on drilled OEM alternative Rotors, if you wish..!

Hello new member and 2nd time owner of W210 but it’s an AMG E55 this time. Car is well taken care of except some interior cosmetics.
firet time I took the car for a long drive 20 plus miles a malfunction of check engine oil level came on and when I checked it with the dip stick and with the cluster oil level check, both seemed to be ok along with oil color is very clean. Not dark at all. Any idea what this might be. There is my baby.

Nice car!

I'd say that the both times you checked it, it was stationary and it measured up. It came on during movement? Low oil triggers sensor as well while on the move when on the highway or hard turns.

Oil level sensor not functioning correctly possibly. I cant see any other mechanism to connect the dots. It's about ~$100.

It's inside of the lower oil pan on the passenger side to replace. BUT I would inspect the connector for dirt or oil at the connector on the outside top side and clean it. There is an o ring that could have failed as well and leaked oil up. Still if the o ring is failing (~$5) you'll have to remove the pan to get to it.

Congrats on your purchase.. Get the air filter off of there and check out all your breather hoses, crank ventilation hoses, etc. for cracks and brittleness. No oil leaks is a good sign. Get it up on a lift and check the front & rear flex discs (they're rubber pieces at the front & rear of driveshaft where it mounts to tranny and rear end. Also the support bearing/bushing in the center of the driveshaft.

Enjoy your E55 they're a blast to drive. Great cars. I wouldn't "check out" the tranny or flush it unless you want to replace it soon. Look at the trans fluid via dipstick (you'll need to buy one of those) and if it's not burnt or dirty, don't bother ****ing with it.

Love the driving light conversion. You have a link for that conversion?
