Price?

The guy I sold my old 2001 E55 to is looking to unload it. It's got 130k miles and the paint is in rough shape. Mechanically the car is in great shape and the interior is very, very clean. He had the seats redone with MB leather. It also has new headlights and fog lights.

From what my friend said (his boss owns it) he'll take $7k for it. I'm feeling more like $6k, which I'm not sure he'd even consider. FWIW, I sold it to him for $7k a few years ago with 120k miles on it. He's done a lot of work to the car since then.

What do you guys think it's worth? W210 E55 prices are all over the place on CL around here.

The thing is I have no need for the car, but I really want it. It's a solid, well maintained E55 that just needs paint. I wouldn't paint it since it would be my DD and sitting outside. The E63 stays in the garage.

Would I be stupid to pass on it for $7k? I've got the cash to buy it, but I'm also working on doing a lot of remodeling on my house right now and that money could go a long way with that. I'm just really on the fence when it comes to buying it. My Durango (my current DD) is getting up there in miles as well so I'm just waiting for something expensive to go wrong with it. It's not worth **** so I'm hesitant to dump any money into it.

The pic was taken today while my friend was doing some work on the E63 at his shop.

edit: Forgot to mention. The car has been hit front and rear prior to my first owning it but the title is clean. None of the paint on the car is original, but it was a Tectite Grey car from the factory.

'99 and '05 E55 AMG
Strigoi,
For what it is worth, I find my '99 E55 to be much more "calming" than my '05 E55.

Very different car but a wonder in it's own way; despite being less quick and less agile, not a car to be trifled with .

$7K plus $3K paint job. You've got a car good for another 6-7 years. FWIW, I paid almost $7K for mine in perfect mechanical condition but with body and paint damage. Mechanical condition trumps body and paint anytime.

FWIW, I've dropped $5500 on paint and bodywork on my '99 E55. It's an unusual car and, to me, worth the money.

Different car but one that a driver can appreciate. I certainly enjoyed it the time a W211 E63 AMG passed my W210 E55 AMG on Texas toll road 130 at 90 mph.

Siblings.

I put over 30,000 miles on that car and love the W210s. There's just something about them. I also like the 2001 models since they were a rare year for the car. Add into that that it's a Tectite Grey car and there weren't many made.

The issues with the paint are that it's just faded as hell in some spots. You can see that above the doors and going onto the C pillar in the pic, there is no gloss left. The trunk was recently repainted ($200 job, no blending) and the bumper/hood were done probably a year or so ago. The paint doesn't look bad overall from a distance but is bad up close. The body is super straight overall and just has a few dings.

Well he's firm on his price and it's a bit more than I want to pay right now. Going to pass on it for now at least.

Plus it's not worth that much considering how the paint looks on it.

No rust on it though.
