Taking the plunge? E55 for $2500
Since I saw this ad I've communicated with the seller. Waiting on VIN and smog info. Car is in limp mode. Am I nuts? Go for it? Was considering a run up there on Monday with $2000 and tow it back via Uhaul with a friend's truck.

Talk me into or out of it.

The exterior paint is not in good condition and overall, this car is in very bad shape.
It could be engine, transmission, etc... it will cost you much more in long run. I would stay away. Good luck in your decision.

As long as you have deep pockets or the ability to do a lot of the work yourself, then it might be a nice restoration project. Otherwise walk away. If the issue with the car was something minor or relatively cheap problem to repair, the odds are the current owner would have had it fixed before putting it up for sale.
If you want to buy it, I would strongly suggest you at least have the car inspected by a mechanic that works on MB regularly. That way, you at least get a decent idea of the true mechanical and physical condition of the vehicle before buying it.

Sounds like it needs a new transmission. It still appears to be a great deal. You can get a nice used transmission for a few hundred and have it painted. You should be good to go.
