New Owner Introduction and Exhaust question- 1999 E55 AMG
Hi all
Finally found the perfect car - a one owner 1999 E55 AMG. Got the car about a month ago - It was posted here for sale as well. One owner, Immaculate condition with 77K miles. Hats off to John for documenting and retaining every last record with car - including the original deposit slip from 1998 !! Incredible owner and fantastic car. I will update with pictures soon.
As much as I want to retain the stock configuration - I can't but want a bit more rumble from the exhaust ! I have been looking at the Eisenmann exhaust from Vivid racing - they list it for ~$1800.
https://www.vividracing.com/eisenman...01-p-8141.html
Couple of questions:
1. The description says that the bumper will have to be modified - can anyone confirm if this is the case ? If yes, then I am not going to do it - I don't want to make any permanent modifications like cutting into an original bumper etc
2. If answer to #1 is yes - is there any other recommendation for an exhaust that will fit without any bodywork modifications ? I am not interested in doing headers etc - mainly because its beyond my skill level and I plan to install the exhaust myself.

meh!
Welcome Affaly-E55,
You dont need more noise or rumble on the E55s. imo, I'd keep the same oem configuration as it was designed.

Just remove the resonator and see if you like it. If you need something more, go with headers. More than that go with no rear muffler in addition to the other mods.

remove the resonator if its still too quiet remove the secondary cats.
I think you would only have to modify the bumper if you had a non-amg car without the cutout for the tips.

Welcome to the forum. These are great and very hard to find cars especially the nice one's. I talked to John myself too on a friend's behalf but friend was stuck on a KBB value (LOL) and within days, it was sold to you. Good for you. I also have an identical car in impeccable condition both cosmetically as well as mechanically that I bought last year with 67,000 miles.
Enjoy it in good health.

i would not spend $2000 on a muffler for this car, if you really want it i can sell you my "Custom Magnaflow" exhaust for a 5th of the price, and its a direct bolt on as im planing on doing a full custom set up
Good Luck

I'm selling my 1999 E55. Been an awesome car but have 5 in the driveway and the E's gotta go. The SL600 Misha wide body may go too. When I have time to clean and it stops raining, I will post pics of the E55 in a new thread.

Thanks all for your input/suggestions - I think I am just going to keep the car stock. As is commonly said - A car is only original once and this example is too immaculate to modify.
