Welcome nice job

moved to W210 AMG forum...

W210 E55 fenders are different than the non-AMG ones.
I knew a member on here that had a non-AMG rear fender installed on his car after a crash repair and he had rubbing issues. Something to think about. |
Good to know. I might have to get fenders from a 2002 E55 then instead of the ones from the E320 I have now that are stretched on.

FWIW, I'm running W210 E55 monoblocks on my lowered E320 wagon and have no issues with rubbing.
|
You could also get an aftermarket front bumper that looks like an e55's that will work with your fenders.

Nice! Let's trade cars?

Are you trying to make it look like a '00+ post-facelift model? Headlights, quarter panels, mirrors, and even A-pillars are different from '99 and lower. The hood slopes down more on the 00+. Body panels from the '99 AMG and standard models are mostly interchangeable, but the fenders were rolled on the AMG assembly line in Affalterbach.
|
No not exactly. I'm just doing a cheap repair with the body parts available. I'm just looking for helpful info like this, about the small differences between the w210 models that will help me on this custom project.

I do not believe a W210 1999 will accept a hood, trunk or probably front bumper cover newer from 2000 and newer. Your front bumper blade might only accept 1999 front cover. Be certain front cover MATCHES 2000 and newer fender profile or the connection point/fasteners will interchange. Head lamps might be different profile at the bumper cover
E-55 Monoblok should not be any problem w/ rubbing UNLESS the fenders do not fit from 2000 to 1999 You mention "cheap" repair(????). 1999 parts from an E320 will fit and be less expensive. Not only cheaper but the time and cost of converting might be very NOT cheap. AMG is a trim/engine/wheel package not really body parts. The expense will be a loaded front bumper cover; $750 to $1200 plus paint |

What are you stating?

I have zero clearance issues running Monoblocks on my lowered facelift E320 wagon. I do realize I'm somewhat contradicting what I previously said in this thread. Dude had rubbing issues, as far as we could tell it was from the non-AMG fender on his E55. Here's mine. No rubbing whatsoever. It's also sitting on H&R springs for an E55 that have had a couple of coils removed. Attachment 440255 |

It's also sitting on H&R springs for an E55 that have had a couple of coils removed. To further clarify, for my tire clearance comments and lowered, as an example, those going with 245s rather than 235s or less up front are going to have rubbing issues and need the fender lipped rolled. Even with 235s (ex. on our 97 E50 lowered), it clears only because of the factory lip roll. 245s will MOST likely rub on this setup. I'm running staggered setup frt 18x8 et31s & rear 18x9 et35s. Others could be running the slightly larger monoblocks staggered 18x8.5 and 18x10. So, no, I dont believe the statements you made are contradicting. What I have noticed is comments from others about rubbing vs. no rubbing is that they don't clarifying their specific setup on lowering, ride height, spring pad spec (#1,2, 3 etc), as well as the tyre they are using since there are small subtle but noticeable differences in tyre widths/profiles of different makes - and have seen how they do mean the difference between rub .vs. no rub clearances. As another example, I can tell you with our 99 w202 kompressor, I've read numerous comments of other members lowering their rides with H&R, Eibach, various spring pad #s or no pads and their 17", 18" monoblocks and again, it's a wide range of what fits, rubbing, no rubbing. Im running eibachs here on the w202 (same part # a friend runs here locally on an identical w202) and I'm using #3 pads in the rear, #2s in the front and he is using #2 pads in rear and #1s in the front (both cars same tires). Both have oem shocks on them still. What # pad have you got up front? Attached a quick blow up and shadow enlightening of your front wheels and fender gap (hard to tell with the photo angle). It looks like have some room still for lowering (via the pad change?) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...729d96d9f1.png https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...d10906d50f.png |

You are correct others state options w/o giving specific parameters. To state "fenders need to be rolled" sounds like that genre of statement. Your chart is very enlightening; thank you. I merely opined my experience regarding upgrading a 1999 to newer panels the original poster was requesting as a cheap repair. I spent time looking for just a fog lamp capture connector for E-55 cover to E320 harness. I searched headlamps, trunk lid, hood and front covers for my 2001. Mostly the 1999 E-55/1999 E-320 parts will not fit a 2000 and newer platform. I believe the best fix in this post is to use OEM 1999 parts. |
