Refinishing OEM wheels

2 wheels have some rashes on the outer lips, how do I get them fixed where I get the same finish? Any suggestions?

Try Wheels America or another wheel refinishing shop in your area. Google is your friend.

Over the years I have used local wheel refinishers with excellent results - meaning that you can't detect the repair. In the past 10 years the charges have gone from about $75 per wheel to about $150 per wheel depending on the severity of the damage. Some of these repair vendors will come to your location. An internet search should turn up some in your area. Good luck!

Are lips clear coated?

ACB_E55 05-14-2019 10:38 PM

Yes...It's my understanding that the lips are clear coated but I'm a newbie so I may be wrong...LOL.

I'm in the same boat. I need to get all my wheels refinished as well and will be looking for someone I can trust to do a proper job in my area.

Not to hijack the thread but if anyone has a suggestion for the San Fernando Valley / Los Angeles area in So Cal please let me know.

Thank you...!

I paid about $860 to have a set of E55 Monoblocks refinished. They looked close to new when done. The wheels were bent, had a lot of curb rash and the finish was in horrible shape when I bought them.

Done by this place. They don't accept credit cards so it's cash or check only: Dropped them off without an appt, had them back 2 days later. Price included dismounting/mounting/balancing tires. https://www.yelp.com/biz/rite-way-wi...s-walnut-creek

Mine were done with a silver powder coated face and polished lips. Zero miles on them after putting them on at my friend's shop.

I had my set refinished for 1k. There perfect and worth it. Nothing looks better than a nice clean set of monoblocks.

Hey Steve,

Can you please find out from your shop as to what process and color they used especially for the lips? That would really help?

Thanks

For those getting this done, how are they keeping the lip brushed AL opposed to the painted face?

BlownV8 08-08-2019 08:12 AM

It is polished and then clear coated.

But how do you retain the brushed look and would repairing and polishing take the brushed look away? Is there any paint on the lips or just the clear coat?

BlownV8 08-08-2019 08:18 PM

They should be able to polish the repair and make it look close to the others.

Please ask them especially about refinishing the lips... How they repair while keeping the brushed look? Any color on the lips and any clear on them?

Thanks

Tirgoman 08-08-2019 10:42 PM

They may have done a good job but that shop that doesn't take credit cards would scare me, it's a sign of a lot of disputes that resulted in charge backs from the credit card company. You then have no recourse if they don't do a good job or if there are any issues and they don't stand behind their work. A credit card charge back "hammer" is always good.

The owner was away but spoke briefly with one of his employees.
He said the wheel goes in a machine to cut just a little of the lip and
then it’s just clear coated. The center is a Mercedes color but not sure
on the code, says the owner handles the paint ordering. Hope this helps.
