New 2002 Tectite Grey owner
Hey everyone!
I just bought a rare Tectite Grey Metallic 2002 E55 with 156k on the clock. My customer brought it to me to help him sell it, and I listed it but I couldn't let it sit there without giving it some serious thought. I have always been a fan of the w210 body. I don't think that I could've made a better decision.
Here's some pics. The only mods are: lowered on H&R springs/ Bilstein struts, and a birds eye maple Affalterbach shift knob.

Congrats on the purchase! That's a great looking car. I had the same interior and loved it.
I think your NAV unit is aftermarket though in addition to the other mods you mentioned. Hopefully you have the AUX cable port in the glove box. I loved being able to play my music through my phone in an 02 car!

Yes, the head unit is aftermarket. I prefer it honestly, I am still trying to bypass the DSP system in my X5 and it's really frustrating. All the aux stuff is in the glove box but I just use bluetooth with my phone. It makes it so nice.
nice car, one of my favorite colors. What head unit is that? I bought the double din trim about a year ago to put in a better radio with bluetooth etc but have not done it yet.

I got a great deal on it, less than 6k. But I was about to sell it for my friend at $7500, he just gave me the deal because it would stay in the family so to speak. They didn't make very many Tectite Grey metallic cars in general, less in 2002.

Thanks for nothing! Now that I've seen it, I want it! I thought I had to settle for the black (I can't stand black cars, but it's better than the silver), but now that I know this is a thing, I have to hold out for a Tectite Grey

I have changed the DRLs to LED and I will do the fog lights as well. LED lights have been put into the interior and license plate lights, not going too crazy.
Tectite is definitely hard to come by, especially a 2002. But you should be able to find one if you wait a while. I feel the same way, I have always wanted a w210 but I honestly thought they were all silver or black. When my friend told me his was grey, I had no idea that it was a very rare car. Actually just last week I saw another Tectite Grey e55 in Bellevue at Park Place getting washed. So I know they're around!
Thanks for giving me hope, I think I'll have to either be super lucky or in your case know someone who is selling, because the pickings are slim for w210's in general on auto trader, and even slimmer in Canada.
Going to follow this space, my mind is still blown it came out in another color other than black, white, or silver 😂
Nice! You own a diamond in the rough which looks like it was well cared for that should easily hit 300k. I really hope to lay eyes on this combo someday, I am clueless as to why more people did not opt for it from the factory. I can only assume tectite was available on the ‘02s. The suspension update was the icing on the cake. Get a black grill, flat hood emblem, and swap out the amber side markers.

Yeah, I'm not sure why more didn't go for it either. There was a really rare Tectite grey on black/red Designo for sale but it had some minor damage, it went for pretty cheap locally. Someone got a rare car.
The only plans I have is swapping out the amber side markers, but I like the hood ornament and the chrome grill because it matches the rest of the trim. I am going to see if I can bring the front down a little bit because whoever lowered it probably didn't swap out the spring pads. It looks slightly reverse raked.. The windshield needs to be replaced and I will do PDR on the whole car and ceramic coat it. The wheels need to be refinished to be perfect. X pipe will eventually happen. Wheel spacers will come at some point... Just me being nit picky.
I’m pretty sure most were clueless about the spring pads when making changes to the suspension. I personally feel you got the best color combo. The blue/black would also look nice, but that was only available on the 99s. I think swapping out the side markers should definitely be at the top of the list.
At the end of the day your cars needs nothing. Enjoy the beast and throw many miles on it!
